Lady Cougars knock off No. 25 Iowa Western in opening night of Classic

The Barton Community College women's basketball team knocked off No. 25 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College 79-77 in the opening night of the Best Western and Cougar Booster Club Classic held Friday at the Barton Gym.   Trailing by three after the first ten minutes, the Lady Cougars regained a one point lead by halftime before having the Reivers take a two point lead to the final quarter.   A three point play with 7:22 remaining gave Barton a lead they wouldn't relinquish, building the advantage out to seven before holding off Iowa Western down the stretch for the victory.   Improving to 2-0 on the season, Barton will next take on nationally receiving votes Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 5:30 p.m. Saturday while Iowa Western looks to bounce back from their season opening loss with the 1:00 p.m. opening game versus the junior varsity squad from Washburn University.

Sophomore transfer Baylee Robinson had a monster night in leading four Lady Cougars in double digits with twenty-five points and ten rebounds.  Katrina Roenfeldt just missed a double-double night knocking down five three pointers enroute to a twenty-one point and nine rebound performance to go along with a team high five steals.  Regan Unruh added eleven points as did birthday girl Jalisa Jones who gave Barton the go-ahead fourth quarter points converting a three point play.   Unruh was joined by Alexus Bryson in leading a fifteen assist team effort with four dimes each.

Azaria Floyd led a balance Reiver output with fourteen while Jazza Johns scored ten while tying Destinee Tooks for high rebound honors with seven each in helping Iowa Western to 45-34 rebound advantage. 

In the earlier contest, NOC-Enid improved to 2-0 on the early season behind a thirty-one point effort from Sarah Garvie in pulling away from Washburn JV 77-52.    Madison Varjo led the Ichabods with nineteen off the bench including a 5-of-10 shooting display from beyond the arc while Sydney Paialii added ten points.
