Strong second half lifts Barton women to 69-52 win over Pratt

The Barton Community College women's basketball team got hot in the second half Saturday at the Barton Gym defeating Pratt Community College 69-52.  Shooting just shy of 58% in the second frame, the Lady Cougars had two key stretches beginning with an 8-1 run early in the half to gain separation then put the game out of reach with a 10-2 run at the seven minute mark in capturing the victory.   The victory on Hall of Fame night was the second straight win improving Barton to 3-4 in Jayhawk Conference play and 13-6 overall while dropping Pratt to 3-4 and 12-9 overall.  The Lady Cougars will be on the road for the next two games beginning this Wednesday traveling to Concordia for a 6:00 p.m. conference matchup against Cloud County Community College.

The third best free throw shooter in the Jayhawk West, Phikala Anthony followed her 9-of-10 effort from the charity stripe Wednesday at Colby with a 9-of-11 performance Saturday on the way to twenty-one points leading three Lady Cougars in double-digit scoring.  Struggling at times since conference play began, Katrina Roenfeldt knocked 4-of-8 behind the arc for fourteen points while Julia Dixon added eleven points.  Outrebounding the Lady Beavers by seven, McKinna Kraus grabbed a team high six boards in fourteen minutes of play while Indiah Cauley, despite only scoring five points, helped lead her team to the win by dishing out four of the team's ten assists.

Four Lady Beavers reached double figures accounting for all but ten of Pratt's points on the evening.  Teairra Luckett and Karissa Pena each scored eleven while Jazzmen Ortiz and Lanina Spence added ten each with Spence leading in rebounding with six.
