Run through the Region ends in semifinal loss for Lady Cougars

Having pulled two upset victories already, the Barton Community College women's basketball team dug a deep early hole in losing 57-45 Friday to No. 6 ranked Butler Community College in the semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita's Koch Arena.  Going scoreless the first seven minutes of the contest, the Lady Cougars fell behind 12-0 and were never able draw any closer than six the rest of the way.  The loss ends Barton's season at 20-13 while Butler improves to 32-1 and advances to the championship game on Saturday.

Mariana Lambert scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, coming off the bench to lead the Lady Cougars with twenty-points including a 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.  Lambert finished her Barton career on a four-game streak averaging 14.5 points per game and shot 45% beyond the arc on 9-of-20 shooting.   Freshman Phikala Anthony scored eight while Brandy Winbush knocked down a three-pointer for the 29th game this season in finishing with seven points.  Kailai Brantner led the team in assists with five while Cheyenne Hedrington led in rebounds with six to go along with three steals. 

Butler placed three players in double figures, led by Ashley Gibson's sixteen.  Te'era Williams scored twelve and led the Grizzlies in rebounding with nine while Shayla Williams added eleven.  Teanna Reid led Butler with four assists and four steals.
