Barton women dominate the paint to escape for third straight road victory

Barton women dominate the paint to escape for their second straight road victoryThe Barton Community College women's basketball team needed every point of its twenty-two point advantage in the paint Wednesday night at Dodge City's United Wireless Arena to pick up their second straight conference road victory, defeating Dodge City Community College 66-64.  Leading by fifteen in the second half, the Lady Cougars survived a Dodge City 14-4 run in the last four minutes including two Kesha Buckner missed free throws with two seconds remaining, to escape with the win.  Barton improves to 5-3 in conference play and 17-7 overall while dropping Dodge City to 1-7 in conference and 14-10 overall.  Playing the last two games on the road, Barton returns to the Barton Gym on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Cloud County Community College.

Ashton Bruner led three Lady Cougars to reach double figures as the sophomore from McPherson scored nineteen points to go along with seven rebounds and team high two steals.  Cheyenne Hedrington posted her sixth double-double performance of the season and the first since doing so the last time the Lady Cougars played Dodge City, scoring sixteen points and grabbing fifteen rebounds to help lead Barton to a twenty-five rebound advantage.  Mariana Lambert came off the bend to score eleven in part to 3-for-5 from behind the arc.  After having seven assists in the first half, Kailai Brantner finished with a team eight dimes and added seven points.  Brandy Winbush, who made her fourth straight start, grabbed a career high ten rebounds and drained a three pointer for the 21st time in twenty-four games.  

Dodge City placed four players in double digits led by Azaria Nave's twelve points on only 5-of-17 shooting from the field.  Kesha Buckner scored eleven but grabbed seventeen rebounds while also dishing out a team high six assists.  Coming off the bench Katren Cramer scored eleven while Kelli Tolar added ten and led the Lady Conquistadors with three steals.
