  • Five Lady Cougar Basketball players moving on to next level

    Five players from the Barton Community College women’s basketball team have signed letters of intent to play next season at the NCAA and NAIA levels. Cheyenne Hedrington will continue her career at Division I Grand Canyon University, signing at the Division II level were Ashton Bruner to Emporia State University, Mariana Lambert with Colorado State University Pueblo, and Taylor Mayes with Western State Colorado University, while Kailai Brantner signed with Ashford University at the NAIA level.
  • Two Lady Cougars earn All-Tournament award

    Two Barton Community College women’s basketball players were recently named to the Region VI All-Tournament Team. Mariana Lambert, a KJCCC West Division Honorable Mention selection, was joined by Phikala Anthony on the eleven member team announced at the conclusion of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena. The Lady Cougars’ season came to an end last Friday coming up on the short end of 57-45 loss to No. 6 ranked Butler Community College in the semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita's Koch Arena. Having already pulled two upsets in the tournament, the Lady Cougars went scoreless the first seven minutes of the contest to dig a 12-0 deficit and were never able draw any closer than six the rest of the way. The loss ended Barton's season at 20-13.

    Having pulled two upset victories already, the Barton Community College women's basketball team dug a deep early hole in losing 57-45 Friday to No. 6 ranked Butler Community College in the semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita’s Koch Arena. Going scoreless the first seven minutes of the contest, the Lady Cougars fell behind 12-0 and were never able draw any closer than six the rest of the way. The loss ends Barton’s season at 20-13 while Butler improves to 32-1 and advances to the championship game on Saturday.
  • Lady Cougars on a mission, knock off No. 20 Seward to advance to Region VI Semifinal

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team pulled their second straight upset victory of the postseason knocking off Seward County Community College 61-56 in the Region VI Quarterfinals held at Wichita’s Koch Arena. The Lady Cougars, entering the tournament as the 12th seed, led from beginning to end over the 4th seeded Lady Saints to put to bed a four-game drought against Seward and the first postseason win over Seward since 2000. Improving to 20-12 on the season, Barton will next play at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the semifinals against top seeded and No. 6 ranked Butler Community College. Seward County ends the season at 26-6.

    Three Barton Community College women’s basketball players were recently named to the KJCCC West Division All-Conference Team. Cheyenne Hedrington led the selections with a second team honor while Ashton Bruner and Mariana Lambert landed on the honorable mention team. The announcement comes just days after the Lady Cougars won their first round playoff game knocking off nationally receiving votes Cowley College 82-76 on the Tigers home floor. The Lady Cougars (19-12) will next play No. 20 Seward County Community College (26-5) in the region quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wichita State University's Koch Arena.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team bounced back from disappointment three days earlier to feeling the joy of redemption as the Lady Cougars upset nationally receiving votes Cowley College 82-76 in Arkansas City Saturday. The first-round Region VI Tournament victory improves Barton to 19-12 and ends Cowley’s season at 22-9. Barton will next play No. 20 Seward County Community College in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena.
  • Chances escape Barton Women, sends Lady Cougars to the road for first round of Region VI

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had its chances Wednesday night at the Barton Gym but fell in overtime to Garden City Community College 66-65. Barton finishes the regular season 7-7 in conference play and 18-12 overall while Garden City improved to 8-6 in the Jayhawk and 16-13 overall. A win by Barton would have secured the fourth seed and first round home playoff game but instead the Lady Cougars will take the sixth seed into the Region VI Tournament and a trip to Arkansas City to play the third seeded Cowley College Tigers on Saturday. The 22-8 Tigers, who lost their last regular season game at Independence Community College 76-60, finished third in the Jayhawk East at 8-6. Game time at the William S. Scott Gym is set for 5:30 p.m.
  • Cougars drop two to Garden City to end regular season, Region VI playoffs start Saturday

    It was not the results the Barton Community College basketball teams had hoped for Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, as both the women's and men's teams suffered hard fought defeats to Garden City Community College. The Lady Cougars dropped a 66-65 overtime game while the Cougar men lost 74-72. Both Barton teams will have the No.6 seed in the upcoming Region VI Tournament set to begin on Saturday. The Lady Cougars, who finished sixth in the standings at 6-8 and 18-12 overall, will travel to Arkansas City to take on the 8-4 and 22-8 Cowley College Tigers. The Cougar men, who finished in a four-way tie for third at 8-6 and 20-10 overall, will travel to El Dorado to take on the 7-5 and 22-9 Butler Community College Grizzlies.
  • Lady Cougar rally comes up short at No. 3 Hutchinson

    For the second straight game the Barton Community College women's basketball team had the tall task of taking on a ranked opponent on the road. Saturday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena the Lady Cougars rally came up short in dropping a 69-58 decision to No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College. After trailing by fourteen at halftime, Barton outscored Hutchinson by three in the second half including drawing to within eight in last moment of play. The loss drops Barton to 18-11 overall and into sixth place at 6-7 in the conference standings. The Lady Cougars wrap up the regular season on Wednesday hosting one of the teams they are chasing, the 7-6 Garden City Community College Broncbusters. Should Barton defeat Garden City for the second time this season, the Lady Cougars could move into fourth spot and host a Region VI first round home playoff game. Barton would need the scenarios of Pratt losing at Seward County and Cloud County getting a win at Colby. Game time for Wednesday's pivotal game against the Broncbusters is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym with sophomore recognition night to immediately follow.

    Trailing the No. 16 ranked Lady Saints by two early in the second half, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team simply got outworked for the last eighteen minutes to drop a 69-42 decision to Seward County Community College Wednesday night in Liberal, Kansas. The loss drops Barton to 18-10 overall and into a three-way tie at 6-6 for the fourth spot in the standings, further dampening the hopes of hosting a first round home playoff game. With only two remaining games in the regular season, the Lady Cougars will need to at least win one of the remaining two games to have a shot. Seward’s victory clinched a first round home playoff spot as the Lady Saints improved to 9-3 in conference play and 24-4 overall. Barton will travel to No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season next Wednesday at home against Garden City Community College. Game time for Saturday’s matchup with the Lady Dragons is 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

    Unleashing some fury after back-to-back frustrating losses, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team racked up forty-seven first half points in cruising to a 85-55 victory over Colby Community College at the Barton Gym Saturday night. The Lady Cougars shot 50% in the first half and limited the Lady Trojans to only 25% shooting to build a twenty-four point halftime lead. With the win Barton improves to 6-5 in conference play and 18-9 while keeping Colby winless in the league at 0-11 and dropping to 2-25. The Lady Cougars will begin their toughest two game stretch of the season taking on two nationally ranked teams on the road. Barton travels to No. 10 Seward County Community College on Wednesday then plays No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College next Saturday. Game time for Wednesday in Liberal, Kansas, against the Lady Saints is set for 6:00 p.m.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had their modest two-game winning streak snapped Saturday night at the Barton Gym as Cloud County Community College completed the conference season sweep winning 78-72. Coming off two wins on the conference road, the Lady Cougars could have moved into the third spot in the conference standings with the victory. The loss drops Barton to 17-8 on the season and into fifth place at 5-4 in the standings. Cloud improves to 14-9 on the season and is tied with Garden City at 5-3. Barton’s next game will be Wednesday at Pratt Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team needed every point of its twenty-two point advantage in the paint Wednesday night at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena to pick up their third straight conference road victory, defeating Dodge City Community College 66-64. Leading by fifteen in the second half, the Lady Cougars survived a Dodge City 14-4 run in the last four minutes including two Kesha Buckner missed free throws with two seconds remaining, to escape with the win. Barton improves to 5-3 in conference play and 17-7 overall while dropping Dodge City to 1-7 in conference and 14-10 overall. Playing the last two games on the road, Barton returns to the Barton Gym on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Cloud County Community College.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball ended a two game losing streak in Garden City as the Lady Cougars won 80-62 Saturday night over Garden City Community College. Barton led by five at the break then outscored Garden City by thirteen in the second half to also snap a four-game losing streak to the Lady Busters. Barton improves to 4-3 in Jayhawk Conference play and 16-7 overall and while dropping Garden City to 4-3 in conference and 12-10 overall. The Lady Cougars will conclude their two game conference road stretch of the schedule with a trip to Dodge City Community College on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. tip at the United Wireless Arena.
  • Lady Cougars get outmuscled in loss to No. 3 Hutchinson

    Once the nation’s No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College got warmed up, the Lady Dragons took control Wednesday night at the Barton Gym to defeat Barton Community College 78-52. The Lady Dragons out rebounded Barton by thirty and outscored the Lady Cougars by twenty-two points in the paint to remain undefeated on the season. Barton drops to 3-3 in conference play and 15-7 overall while Hutchinson improves to 6-0 and 20-0 overall. The Lady Cougars will begin a two game road conference stretch beginning Saturday at Garden City Community College in a 5:30 p.m. contest. After a trip to Dodge City Community College on Wednesday, the Lady Cougars return for a home contest on Saturday, February 8, against Cloud County Community College.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team jumped out to 12-2 run Sunday at Colby and never looked back cruising to the 82-47 win over Colby Community College. The victory was the sixth straight in the series over Colby and earned the Lady Cougars their first road conference win of the season to improve to 3-2 and 15-6 overall while Colby drops to 0-5 and 2-19.

    Outscoring the No. 10 ranked team in the nation by six in the second half, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team’s rally came up short Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, falling 78-72 to Seward County Community College. Barton drops its second straight in conference play to fall to 2-2 and 14-6 overall while Seward County improves to 3-1 in conference play and 18-2 overall. The Lady Cougars return to the conference road on Sunday, traveling to Colby Community College for a 2:00 p.m. contest at the Colby Community Building.
  • Cold shooting Lady Cougars drop first conference game of season

    The cold-shooting Barton Community College women’s basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Saturday night in Concordia dropping a 77-61 loss to Cloud County Community College. Despite trailing by only two at the break, 34% shooting in both halves of play sent the Lady Cougars to defeat in their first conference road game. Barton drops to 2-1 in conference play and 14-5 overall while Cloud County remains undefeated in Jayhawk Conference play at 3-0 and improves to 12-6 overall.
  • Lady Cougars outscore Dodge City 100-91 for second straight conference victory

    Eclipsing the century mark for the first time this season, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team outscored Dodge City Community College 100-91 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. The combined points was the most in the series history and the first time since the 2000 season either team surpassed triple digits since the 2000 season when Barton accomplished it twice. The Lady Cougars improve to 14-4 overall and begin the Jayhawk Conference season at 2-0 for the first time since the 2008 season. Dodge City drops to 0-2 in conference play and 13-5 overall. Barton will have its first conference road test on Saturday as the Lady Cougars travel to Concordia for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Cloud County Community College. The Lady T-birds are also undefeated in conference play at 2-0 and will bring an 11-6 overall record to the contest.
  • Lady Cougars capture conference season opener with late second half surge

    For the first time since the 2007-08 season, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team opened Jayhawk Conference play with a victory as the Lady Cougars controlled the last ten minutes of Saturday night’s conference opener to pull away for a 76-66 win over Pratt Community College. Barton used a modest 4-0 run to breaking open the game’s ninth and final tie with 9:56 to play and never let Pratt get any closer than three the rest of the way. The Lady Cougars’ victory improves the team overall record to 13-4 while dropping Pratt to 13-4. Barton will seek its second conference victory on Wednesday as the Lady Cougars host Dodge City Community College at 5:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym.
  • Lady Cougars rally falls short in 60-59 loss at Cowley College

    Trailing most of the game Saturday night in Arkansas City, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team’s rally came up one-point shy in falling 60-59 to Cowley College. The Lady Cougars trailed by ten with five minutes to play then used a 12-4 run in the next three minutes to tie it at 57. After Cowley took a two point lead with twenty-six seconds remaining, Ashton Bruner knocked down a long two-pointer off an inbound pass just inside the arc to tie it again with 11.6 seconds. Moving the ball up the floor the Lady Tigers’ Brylee New drove to the basket to draw a foul with only 1.6 seconds remaining. After New knocked down the second of two free throws, Barton was unable to get off a shot thus ending a modest three-game winning streak. The Lady Cougars drop to 12-4 on the season while national receiving votes Cowley improves to 12-4 on the season. Barton will begin Jayhawk Conference play at home on Saturday January 11 as the Cougars host Pratt Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Barton Gym.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team closed out the fall portion of the schedule Monday evening at the Barton Gym with an 80-63 win over Hesston College. After being tied at halftime, the Lady Cougars methodically pulled away in the last eight minutes to capture the seventeen point win. Barton improves to 12-3 on the season while dropping Hesston to 6-9. Wrapping up academic finals this week, the Lady Cougars will take over two weeks away from before returning to campus to prepare for a January 4 game at Cowley College. Barton will then have a week away from competition before beginning Jayhawk Conference play on January 11 as the Lady Cougars host Pratt Community College.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team picked up a couple wins over the weekend in the North Central Missouri College Classic held in Trenton, Missouri. Barton knocked off the host Friday night racing to an 85-67 victory. With a quick turnaround for a 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday, the Lady Cougars shook off a sluggish first half to capture a 70-45 win over Ancilla College. With the pair of wins, Barton improves to 11-3 on the season heading into Monday’s fall schedule finale against Hesston College. Tip-off at the Barton Gym is 5:30 p.m. as the Lady Cougars look to sweep the season series having beaten the Larks 64-52 back on November 13 in Hesston.
  • Cold shooting Lady Cougars suffer second straight setback, fall 72-52 at Butler

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team was held to its lowest scoring output of the season in a 72-52 defeat to the No. 8 ranked Butler Community College Grizzlies Wednesday night at the Power Plant in El Dorado, Kansas. For the second straight game the Lady Cougars found itself facing a double-digit deficit early in the contest as Butler scored the game’s first twelve points. Trailing by nineteen at the halftime break, the Lady Cougars began the second half on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to twelve. Three minutes later Barton would cut the lead to twelve again but it was as close as the Lady Cougars would come in the last fourteen minutes of play. With the loss Barton drops to 9-3 on the season while Butler improves to 12-1. The Lady Cougars will head to Trenton, Missouri, for a weekend classic at North Central Missouri College, playing the host at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Barton will then have a short turnaround with a 12:00 p.m. Saturday matchup against Ancilla College.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team raced out to 12-0 lead to cruise to a 84-69 win over Neosho County Community College Friday night at the Barton Gym in the opening day of the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Cougars built a nineteen point first half lead and extended to twenty-one while never allowing Neosho to draw any closer than twelve. With the victory Barton improves to 9-1 on the season and drops Neosho to 5-6. The Lady Cougars will wrap up play in the Classic on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Independence Community College while Neosho will play Brown Mackie College at 1:00 p.m.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team dug a sixteen point first-half hole Saturday night at the Barton Gym in dropping a 92-84 decision to Independence Community College. After picking up a convincing win in Friday’s game of the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic, the Lady Cougars were hit with early foul trouble and struggled form the field as the Lady Pirates built the mountain for Barton to climb. Drawing to within five early in the second half, Independence would answer each run by the Lady Cougars to quickly extend the lead back to double-digits most of night. With the loss Barton drops to 9-2 on the season while Independence improves to 7-2. The Lady Cougars will travel to El Dorado, Kansas, on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against the 10-1 Butler Community College Grizzlies.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team lit up the recently installed new scoreboard Tuesday night at the Barton Gym rolling to a 95-68 win over the junior varsity squad from Tabor College. The Lady Cougars shot over fifty percent in each half to improve to 8-1 on the season while Tabor’s JV drops to 1-6. Barton will next play two Jayhawk East foes this weekend at the Barton Gym in the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Cougars will take on Neosho County Community College on Friday with Independence Community College on Saturday. Both games set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

    Rebounding from their first loss of the season, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team defeated the host Neosho County Community College Panthers 94-65 Saturday night to wrap up play in the Neosho Hoops Classic. The Lady Cougars led by ten at the break extending the lead to thirty-five in the second half to improve to 7-1 on the season and drop Neosho to 3-4. Barton will have a break in their schedule until Tuesday November 26 in hosting Tabor College junior varsity in a 5:30 p.m. tip off at the Barton Gym.
  • Lady Cougars fall from ranks of unbeaten despite double-double performances from Hedrington and Bruner

    A loss was bound to happen at some point for the undefeated Barton Community College women’s basketball team and Friday in Chanute, Kansas, was that day. Battling from behind the whole contest, the Lady Cougars came up short in dropping a 79-69 loss to Allen Community College in the opening game of the Neosho Hoops Classic. In losing its first game of the season, Barton drops to 6-1 while the Red Devils improve to 4-2. The Lady Cougars will play their second and final game of the Classic on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against host Neosho County Community College.   • Big first half run propels Lady Cougars to sixth win of season

    Closing out the first half on an 18-2 run propelled the Barton Community College women’s basketball team to its sixth victory of the season defeating Hesston College 64-52 Wednesday night in Hesston, Kansas. Barton broke open a 12-all tie with seven minutes remaining to lead by sixteen at the break stretching the lead to twenty-three early in the second to stay unbeaten on the season at 6-0 while dropping Hesston to 1-4. This weekend the Lady Cougars will head to Chanute, Kansas, to participate in the Neosho Hoops Classic. Barton will open play at 12:30 p.m. Friday taking on Allen Community College then wrap up the Classic on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against host Neosho County Community College. Both Lady Cougar games in the classic will be available to view live via the Barton Sports Network at www.BartonSports.com.
