    Barton Community College women’s basketball player Jackie Bueno recently committed to play at the next level, signing with NCAA Division II Rogers State University, located in Claremore, Oklahoma. Bueno joins fellow Lady Cougar Erin Copeland to sign at a DII school as Copeland committed to play at the University of Illinois Springfield earlier this past summer.

  • Copeland earns post-season honors for Lady Cougars

    Barton Community College women’s basketball player Erin Copeland was recently named to the KJCCC West Division honorable mention team. Copeland, a sophomore from Kansas City, Kansas, averaged 10.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while also leading the Lady Cougars with 3.1 assists per game. Copeland developed throughout her sophomore season averaging over twelve points per contest in conference play and become a lethal threat from behind the arc shooting nearly 40%.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had its 2012-13 season come to an Saturday in Independence falling 69-59 to Independence Community College in the first round of the Region VI playoffs. With the loss the Jayhawk West’s seventh seed Lady Cougars concludes the season at 13-17 while the Jayhawk East’s second seed Pirates improve to 16-14 and advance to the quarterfinals.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team wrapped up its regular season Wednesday with a 52-38 loss to Cloud County Community College in Concordia. Barton drops to 3-13 to finish seventh in conference and 13-16 overall while Cloud finishes the regular season fourth in the conference at 10-6 and 20-10 overall. The Lady Cougars will begin the Region VI playoffs on the road as they will travel to Independence Community College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
  • Offense sputters in second half as Lady Cougars drop conference road game

    Playing its second game in less than twenty-four hours, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team faltered in the second half and dropped a 59-53 Jayhawk West contest Sunday at Colby Community College. Leading by seven at the break, Barton built a twelve point lead through the first six minutes of the second half. In the midst of building the lead, the Lady Cougars went frigid from the field going nearly twelve minutes without a field goal and resulting in a five point deficit. Tying the game with three minutes to play, Barton was outscored 13-7 down the stretch to drop their conference record to 3-12 and 13-15 overall while keeping Colby got its first conference win of the season to improve to 1-14 and 7-22 overall. Barton will conclude the regular season Wednesday in Concordia as the Lady Cougars take on the Cloud County Community College Lady Thunderbirds in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
  • Lady Cougar sophomores close out home career with victory

    Playing their last game on their home court, the sophomore members of the Barton Community College women’s basketball team combined for thirty-nine points in leading the Lady Cougars to a 64-60 win over Pratt Community College Saturday at the Barton Gym. Snapping a seven game skid, Barton improves to 3-11 in conference play and 13-14 overall while Pratt drops to 4-10 and 15-13 overall. The Lady Cougars have a short turnaround as they head to Colby Community College on Sunday to play a rescheduled game from last Wednesday’s weather postponed game. Game time for Sunday’s contest is 3:00pm at the Colby Community Building.
  • Second time not the charm for Lady Cougars in home loss to Hutchinson

    Wednesday was a record setting night at the Barton Gym but unfortunately for the Barton Community College women’s basketball team it will be records they would likely forget. Jumping out to a 7-0 lead, the No. 3 nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College never looked back in cruising to the 104-64 victory. Having played to a nine-point decision earlier in the season and having trailed by only two late in the contest, the Lady Cougars were simply in the way of a determined Hutchinson team. The loss continues Barton’s seven-game slide in dropping to 2-11 in conference play and 12-14 overall while Hutchinson improves to 11-1 and 25-1 overall. Concluding their brutal four-game seven-day portion of their Jayhawk West schedule, Barton will have a week away from completion until February 20 when the Lady Cougars travel to Colby Community College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Colby Community Building.

    The mystery of the Barton Community College women’s basketball team continued Saturday night at the Barton Gym as the Lady Cougars again proved they can play amongst the best in the Jayhawk West. Conversely for the Lady Cougars the result was their fifth straight loss in falling 66-61 to Garden City Community College. Dropping to 2-9 in conference play, Barton is now at .500 for the season at 12-12 while Garden City, who was fresh off Wednesday’s victory over the nation’s top ranked team, improves to 8-3 in conference and 22-3 overall. Barton will play its third game in five days when the travel to El Dorado on Monday to take on Butler Community College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Power Plant.

    All streaks are bound to end and Wednesday night in Dodge City two streaks came to an end in Barton Community College women’s basketball team’s 71-68 loss to Dodge City Community College at the United Wireless Arena. After winning sixteen straight against the Lady Conquistadors, Barton suffered its first loss since March 2, 2005. Additionally, the win by Dodge City is the first conference win against an opponent other than Colby Community College since the 2007 season when they defeated Garden City Community College. Barton drops to 2-8 on the conference season and 12-11 overall while Dodge City improves to 2-8 in conference and 8-16 overall. The Lady Cougars return to the friendly confines of the Barton Gym on Saturday to take on Garden City Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip.

    Saturday night at the Barton Gym the Barton Community College women’s basketball team nearly pulled out the last second victory but dropped a hard fought 65-63 conference battle to Seward County Community College. The loss is the third straight for the Lady Cougars in dropping them to 2-7 in conference and 12-10 on the season while Seward improves to 6-3 and 15-7 overall. Barton will look to break the skid on Wednesday as the Lady Cougars travel to Dodge City to take on the Lady Conquistadors in a 6:00 p.m. tip at the United Wireless Arena. Barton defeated Dodge City earlier in the season at the Barton Gym 69-52.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team battled from behind most of the night but just couldn’t get over the hump in dropping a 62-55 decision to Cloud County Community College Wednesday at the Barton Gym. Tied at 43 with 6:34 to play, the Lady T-birds went on a 7-0 run in the following minute to provide the final separation to hold off Barton to remain tied with Garden City for second place in the Jayhawk West standings. The loss drops Barton to seventh place in the standings at 2-6 and 12-9 overall while Cloud improves to 6-2 and 16-6 overall. The Lady Cougars begin the second half of the conference season on Saturday as they host Seward County Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

    After leading by six at halftime, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team suffered a second half collapse in falling to Pratt Community College 68-60 at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena. The Lady Beavers used a 25-6 run early in the second half to erase an eight point deficit and defeat the Lady Cougars for the third straight time and only sixth in the series history. Barton’s loss drops them to 2-5 in conference play and 12-8 overall while Pratt improves to 2-5 and 13-8 overall. The Lady Cougars return to the Barton Gym on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt against Cloud County Community College.

With the victory Barton improves to 2-4 in conference play and 12-7 overall while keeping Colby winless in conference play at 0-7 and dropping the Lady Trojans to 6-15 overall. The Lady Cougars head to Pratt on Saturday to play Pratt Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team gave the top ranked team in the nation more than expected, as Hutchinson Community College pulled away in the last three minutes to defeat the Lady Cougars 65-56 Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Down by fourteen with nine minutes to play, the Lady Cougars were within two with 3:30 left before Hutchinson outscored Barton 9-3 down the stretch for the win. With the loss Barton drops to 1-4 in the Jayhawk West and 11-7 overall while No. 1 Hutchinson improves to 4-0 in conference and 18-0 overall. Barton will have a week off from action before hosting Colby Community College in a 5:30 p.m. Jayhawk contest on Wednesday January 23 at the Barton Gym.

    A cold first half shooting for the Barton Community College women’s basketball team was too much to overcome in Saturday’s 74-56 loss at the Barton Gym to Butler Community College. Shooting just twenty-nine percent in the first half, the Lady Cougars played Butler even in the second half in dropping to 1-3 in the Jayhawk West and 11-6 overall. Butler, which dropped their first two conference games to nationally ranked opponents, improve to 1-2 and 13-4 overall. The Lady Cougars return to the conference road on Wednesday to take on No. 1 ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 5:30 p.m. contest at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team played from behind all night as the Garden City Community College Broncbusters took care of the Lady Cougars 62-44 Wednesday in Garden City. Barton drops to 1-2 in conference and 11-5 overall as the No. 10 ranked Broncbusters improve to 2-1 and 16-1 overall. The Lady Cougars look to get back on the winning track at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Barton Gym against Butler Community College as Barton concludes their four-game seven-day stretch. Butler, who lost a three overtime game to Garden City to open conference play then fell Wednesday night 58-45 to No. 1 Hutchinson, will be seeking their first conference victory as the Grizzlies stand 12-4 on the season.

    Playing the first game on the new “L.T. and Sheila Fleske Court”, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team took care of Dodge City Community College 69-52 Monday at the Barton Gym. Getting a career high sixteen points from Taschell Phillips, the Lady Cougars evened their conference mark at 1-1 and improved to 11-4 on the season while dropping Dodge to 0-2 and 6-10 overall. Halfway through their four-game seven day stretch, Barton travels to Garden City Community College on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex then host Butler Community College on Saturday.
  • Lady Cougars drop conference opener

    Trailing throughout Saturday’s contest, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team opened up the 2013 Jayhawk Conference season by falling 70-59 to Seward County Community College in Liberal. Playing their first game since December 9, the Lady Cougars trailed by as many as thirteen against the pre-season conference favorite Lady Saints but battled back numerous times to cut the deficit to four but Seward always had an answer. Barton drops to 10-4 on the season while Seward improves to 10-4. The Lady Cougars will debut Barton’s new gym floor “L.T. and Sheila Fleske Court” on Monday as they host Dodge City Community College at 5:30 p.m. It will be the second game in three days as the Lady Cougars are in the midst of a four-game conference week as Barton will travel to Garden City on Wednesday then host Butler Community College on Saturday.
  • Winbush sparks Lady Cougars’ victory to wrap up fall schedule

    Exploding for forty-four second half points, the Barton women’s basketball team finished up the fall portion of their schedule Sunday in Goodland, Kansas with a 70-45 victory over Northwest Kansas Technical College. The Lady Cougars, who clung to a 26-25 lead at halftime, trailed by five early in the second half before a pair of Blair Bloomfield free throws aided by eight straight points by freshman Brandy Winbush keyed a 12-0 as Barton outscored the Mavericks by twenty-four in the second half. Barton improves to 10-3 on the season but won’t return to action until a January 5 trip to Liberal, Kansas, to take on Seward County Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off to begin Jayhawk Conference play.
  • Lady Cougars dominate second half for 74-60 victory

    Facing an early ten-point second half deficit, the Lady Cougars exploded for forty-eight points in the last eighteen minutes to defeat the junior varsity squad from Tabor College 74-60 Monday night in Hillsboro, KS. Barton improves to 8-2 on the season and will play again Tuesday evening against the McPherson College Junior Varsity in a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym. It will be the last game played on the historic gym floor as Barton will be replacing the surface in time for the Lady Cougars’ home conference opener on January 7.
  • Historical records fall in 89-3 Lady Cougar win

    The Barton women’s basketball team added to the Barton history book in Saturday's 89-3 win over a mismatched Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture team at the Brown Mackie Classic in Salina. With the win Barton improves to 4-1 on the season leading into Tuesday’s 5:00 p.m. road game at Kansas City Community College.
  • Clutch down the stretch, Lady Cougars pull out late road victory

    The Barton women’s basketball team needed some key late plays by a couple of sophomores to pick up a 47-44 road non-conference victory Tuesday over Kansas City Kansas Community College. With the win Barton improves to 5-1 on the season while giving KCK its first loss and dropping them to 3-1. Barton will take the week off from competition until it hosts Cowley College next Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt at the Barton Gym.
  • Lady Cougars pull away late for double-digit win

    The Barton women’s basketball team shook off a sluggish first thirty minutes to pull away from the Kansas Wesleyan Junior Varsity team 74-63 Friday at the Brown Mackie Classic over the weekend held in Salina. The 3-1 Lady Cougars will take on Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in a 5:00 p.m. tip Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
