Barton struggles at home continue in 63-50 West loss
The Barton Community College women's basketball team has still not managed to win a home game in Jayhawk West play this season after a 63-50 loss to Hutchinson Wednesday night. Ironically, the Cougars are a perfect 2-0 on the road in the West. The competition weighs heavily into the 0-4 home mark as the 4 teams have combined to go 17-3 in the West with all 3 losses coming to each other. And 3 of the 4 teams – Seward, Cloud, and Hutch – are a combined 52-5 this season overall. Barton will now get a week off before returning to the road where the Cougars will face Colby at the Community Building with a scheduled 6 pm tip.

Highlights
Barton hung with the defending Region VI champions for much of the opening half as the teams traded the lead 6 times in the opening 9 minutes. Unfortunately for the Cougars the 6th lead change saw Hutchinson take a lead it would not again give up. Hutch took that lead with 11 minutes to play in the opening half at 14-13 and eventually pushed it to double digits late in the half at 29-18. Barton was able to get it under double figures by half, trailing 30-21.

The Cougars remained in the contest the early stages of the 2nd half, trailing just 36-29 with 16 minutes to play. But the Blue Dragons scored the next 8 points to take a 15-point in a matter of a minute and a half. The lead would be double digits the remainder of the way with a high of 21 coming with just 2 minutes to play.

Hannah Rotolo led four Cougars in double figures with 12 points. She was followed by Raven Ward and Alisha Fanshier with 11 and Annie Kassongo with 10. Kassongo added 7 blocks as well while Ward led Barton with 7 rebounds. Barton struggled from the floor the entire night, hitting 24 percent in the opening half and 28 percent in the 2nd half. Hutch was led by Heather Robben with 14 while Ariella McGhee scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Barton has its bye date in the conference schedule Saturday and has just 2 more games left to complete the 1st cycle through the West. The Cougars will be at Colby Wednesday then return home the following Saturday for a Homecoming date with Pratt. Both contests will tip at 6 pm
