Barton scores season-high in 93-63 win at Pratt; heads to Indy for playoffs
The Barton Community College women's basketball team put forth its best offensive performance of the season Saturday night in a 93-63 win at Pratt to wrap up regular season action. Barton will take back-to-back wins to Independence Tuesday night to open the Region VI playoffs. The Cougars (14-15) are the No 6 seed in the West while Indy (21-8) is the 3rd seed in the East. Pratt will be the 7 seed in the West and will take a 4-26 record to Cowley (19-10) to start its post season.

Highlights
Barton jumped out to a 10-0 lead at Lesh Arena and was only challenged at 14-13 before regaining control at 23-13. Barton led by double digits nearly the entire 1st half and took a 39-27 lead to the locker room. Raven Ward scored 10 points in the opening 20 minutes as Barton forced 15 Pratt turnovers for a 21-11 advantage on points off turnovers.

Barton pushed the lead to 23 on an 11-0 run to start the 2nd half. The lead reached 30 with 8 minutes to play and was as high as 36 in the 2nd half. Barton tore the nets up in the 2nd half, hitting 7-of-8 3-pointers thanks to a 5-of-6 effort from Ginny Sanchez, who made her 1st 5 attempts beyond the arc. That shattered her career high of 6 points with 15 in the win at Pratt. Kyndall Bowens was a perfect 3of-3 behind the arc during the contest on her way to 13 points – 1 off her career best.

The Cougars put 5 of their 8 players in double figures with Ward leading the way at 18 followed by Annie Kassongo and Alisha Fanshier with 17 each. Barton shot 56 percent from the floor and a fantastic 24-of-27 at the free throw line. Phylicia Freeman scored 18 to lead the Beavers.

Barton will take on the team that ended its season last year in Region VI action when the Cougars travel to Independence Tuesday for a 6 pm tip. Barton lost a 79-67 decision in quarterfinal action in Wichita last season. The previous season Barton ended Indy's season at Koch Arena with a 62-55 win in semifinal play. The back-to-back wins for Barton heading into the post season are the 1st since late January. Barton could match its season high streak of 3 wins with an opening round upset of the Pirates.
