  • Barton scores season-high in 93-63 win at Pratt; heads to Indy for playoffs

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team put forth its best offensive performance of the season Saturday night in a 93-63 win at Pratt to wrap up regular season action. Barton will take back-to-back wins to Independence Tuesday night to open the Region VI playoffs. The Cougars (14-15) are the No 6 seed in the West while Indy (21-8) is the 3rd seed in the East. Pratt will be the 7 seed in the West and will take a 4-26 record to Cowley (19-10) to start its post season.
  • Barton wins home finale; Kassongo sets single-season blocked shot mark

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team won its home finale Wednesday night, rolling over Colby 66-44 at the Barton Gym. In the process, sophomore Annie Kassongo broke the single-season blocked shot record with 4 more swats in her final game at home. Barton still has one more regular season game to play but the Cougars already know their playoff destination Tuesday – Coffeyville. The Cougars, 6-9 in the West, will be the No 6 seed from the West and will travel to Coffeyville for a 6 pm tip Tuesday night. Barton will conclude regular season play Saturday with a 6 pm tip at Pratt.
  • Cougars lose home tilt to Butler

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team saw its hold on 5th place in the West slip Saturday night at Butler came into the Barton Gym and left with a 76-73 victory. A Hannah Rotolo running 3-pointer just inside halfcourt barely missed at the buzzer to send the contest to overtime. With the loss the two teams will now battle for that 5th spot the rest of the season. Butler currently sits in 5th with a 5-7 mark while Barton is 1/2 game back at 5-8. The Cougars are 12-14 overall this season while the Grizzlies improve to 11-15. Barton will be on the road to square off with No. 12 Hutchinson Wednesday in the Sports Arena.
  • Barton falls at Garden; hosts Butler Saturday

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team was not able to overcome a late 1st half run by Garden City Wednesday night, losing the Jayhawk West contest to the Broncbusters, 75-54 at the Perryman Athletic Complex in Garden. Garden closed the opening half on a 22-9 run on its way to the win. Barton fell to 5-7 in West play with the loss and 12-13 overall. Garden City it now 8-3 in the West and 12-13 overall. The Cougars will host Butler for a battle for 5th in the West Saturday with a 6 pm tip off on Homecoming Night at the Barton Gym.
  • Barton comes up short in upset bid at Cloud; lose at Seward

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team put together its best offensive game since the very early stages of the season with an 82-47 win over Dodge City Saturday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars scored their 3rd highest point total of the year and shot their best percentage from the field of the season in the Jayhawk West win. The Cougars are now 5-6 in the West and 12-12 overall while Dodge City falls to 1-10 in West play and 3-22 overall. Barton will travel to Garden City Wednesday night for a 5:30 pm tip at the Perryman Center.
  • Barton comes up short in upset bid at Cloud; lose at Seward

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team nearly pulled off the upset Monday night in Concordia before losing to Cloud County in close contest. The Cougars lost 55-48 to the 21-2 Thunderbirds in Bryant Gymnasium. Things weren’t quite as close for Barton two days later with another long road to trip to a 22-2 team, falling to Seward 87-63. Barton is now 11-12 overall this year and 4-6 in the Jayhawk West. The Cougars will look to get back to the winning track Saturday when Dodge City visits the Barton Gym for a 6 pm tip.
  • Cougars finally capture West home win with 71-64 win over Pratt

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team earned a 71-64 win Pratt Saturday night at the Barton Gym to capture the Cougars 1st home West win of the year. The win for the suddenly hot Cougars was the team’s 7th in its last 9 games. Barton even its record at 4-4 in the West and climbed over the .500 mark for the 1st time since mid November with an 11-10 overall mark. Pratt fell to 3-19 overall and 2-6 in the West. Barton now plays back-to-back games at two of the league leaders over 3 days. Those two have a combined mark of 40-3. It starts Monday at Concordia against Cloud County (20-2). Barton will then travel Wednesday to Seward County (21-1). Both games will tip at 6 pm.
  • Barton wins 3rd straight West road tilt

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team made it 3 in row on the road to start the Jayhawk West season, giving the Cougars 9 straight West road wins. Barton’s latest victory away from home came at Colby Wednesday night as the Cougars rolled to a 71-51 win over the Trojans at the Community Building. The win improved Barton to 3-4 in the West and 10-10 overall. Colby fell to 2-20 and 0-8 with the loss. Barton will look for its 1st home win in the West this year when Pratt comes to the Barton Gym for a 6 pm tip.
  • Barton struggles at home continue in 63-50 West loss

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team has still not managed to win a home game in Jayhawk West play this season after a 63-50 loss to Hutchinson Wednesday night. Ironically, the Cougars are a perfect 2-0 on the road in the West. The competition weighs heavily into the 0-4 home mark as the 4 teams have combined to go 17-3 in the West with all 3 losses coming to each other. And 3 of the 4 teams – Seward, Cloud, and Hutch – are a combined 52-5 this season overall. Barton will now get a week off before returning to the road where the Cougars will face Colby at the Community Building with a scheduled 6 pm tip.
  • Cougars get in West win column with a pair of road wins

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team found itself 0-3 in the West with 3 home losses heading into the extended weekend but righted the ship with a pair of crucial road wins to bring its mark to 2-3 in the West. Barton won at Dodge 67-60 Monday night following a 72-65 win at Butler on Saturday. Barton is now 9-9 overall this season. The Cougars will look to reach the .500 mark in conference play as well when Hutchinson visits the Barton Gym Wednesday for a 6 pm tip. Hutch is 2-2 in the West and 15-3 overall, ranked No. 23 in last week’s NJCAA poll.
  • Barton loses tough contest to Garden in West action

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had its 3-game winning streak snapped with a tough 69-66 home loss to Garden City in Jayhawk West action Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars fell to 0-3 in the West with the loss while Garden stays unbeaten in West action with a 2-0 mark. Barton is now 7-9 overall and Garden is 6-10. The Cougars will go in search of West win number one this weekend at Butler with a 5:30 pm tip at the Power Plant in El Dorado. Barton will be at Dodge City Monday in a 5:30 tip as well.
  • Cougars defense smothers Bethany JV in 59-28 win

    The Barton Community College women’s basketball team won its season opener Tuesday night at the Barton Gym with some stingy defense in a 59-28 win over the Bethany College JV. Barton allowed Bethany just 6 field goals all night long and forced 40 turnovers to start the 2009-10 campaign off successfully. It also started the career of new Barton Coach Keith Ferguson off on the right foot. Barton will go on the road for the 1st time this weekend when the Cougars travel to Fort Scott for take on the Jayhawk East foe. The Cougars will be back at home Monday to battle the Friends JV in a 5 pm start.
