Cougars stay unbeaten with easy wins at Jayhawk Shoot Out
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team rolled to a pair of wins at the Jayhawk Shoot Out this past weekend in Coffeyville, including a 50-point over the No. 21 ranked team in the NJCAA. The No. 5 Cougars rolled to that 80-30 win over No. 21 KCK Friday then came back late Saturday night to captures a 77-45 win over Allen County. The Cougars are now 11-0 on the season and will be back on the road this weekend when they travel to Moberly, Mo. for a pair of games at the Moberly Classic.

Highlights
Barton left little doubt as to who the winner would be in the opening stages of its games against No. 21 KCK Friday. The Cougars defense smothered KCK early and often, limiting the Blue Devils to just 2 field goals the entire 1st half. The 1st of those came just 2 minutes into the game to cut Barton's lead to 6-3. The 2nd came at the 11:47 after the Cougars had reeled off 17 straight points to take a 23-3 lead. The lead grew to 37-5 with 5 minutes left in the half before Barton struggled offensively getting into halftime, where it led 39-9.

In that opening half of play, Barton limited KCK to just 2-of-22 from the field and forced the Blue Devils into 15 turnovers that resulted in 17 Barton points. Kristine Silaraja led the Cougars with 17 points followed Inga Muciniece who tossed in 14 points and collected 15 rebounds. Kris Lacio led the Cougars with 5 assists and Shelby Hillman had 4 steals.

The 2nd night was a bit sluggish for the Cougars but outcome was never in doubt in the 9 pm game. Barton took an early lead of 13-4 then put some distance between itself and the Red Devils with a 10-2 run that made it 27-12 with 6 minutes left in the half. Barton led 33-20 at the half and a quick 8-27-0 run pushed it 40-20 in the 1st 3 minutes of the 2nd half. Barton led by as many as 34 in the 2nd half before posting the 77-45 win.

Ipek Turkyilmaz scored 14 to lead 5 Cougars in double digits. Silaraja and Muciniece each added 12 with Courtney Sturdivant and Andrea Bogart scoring 10 each. Muciniece had another double-double with 11 rebounds while Jessica Halsig led Barton with 6 assists.
