Lawrence Star Signs with Barton women's basketball
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team's outstanding season is continuing to pay dividends as they have signed Lawrence High School senior Danielle Bird to a letter of intent. Danielle, a 5-11 wing, led Lawrence High to the 6A State Championship this season, and has decided to bring her talents to Barton to continue her career.

Bird is coming off a tremendous senior season, in which she led a very balanced team in scoring at 11.2 points per game, and she also contributed 5.5 rebounds, and 3 assists. In back-to back games at the state tournament, Danielle scored 21 points and 17 points respectively en route to a state championship.

In addition to the team success she experienced, Bird was recognized for her individual play as well. She was named Second Team All-State in class 6A by both the Wichita Eagle and the Topeka-Capital Journal. Maxpreps.com named her to their Big 6 Second Team, and the Kansas City Star honored her as an All-Metro Second Team selection.

She was also dubbed Area Player of the Year by the Lawrence-Journal World, and she was invited to play in the Kansas-Missouri All-Star Game by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association (GKBCA).  Bird was a First Team All-Sunflower League selection as well and she will play in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) All-Star game in August after being named Second Team All-State by the KBCA.

Assistant Coach Ben Lister comments – "Danielle is an athlete that we have wanted for a long time. Over the course of this season, we have watched her continue to develop and show us how bright her future is. I am excited about her versatility both offensively and defensively. She can do so many things well and she creates match-up problems with her ability to score in many different ways. Not only that, she comes from a winning program and she knows what it takes to win in big games. She fits our style of play very well, and I am confident that she will have an excellent career here. I am very excited that she has chosen Barton."
