Barton moves to 2-0 with win over Dodge; games at Cloud, Seward next
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team has made it to 2-0 in the Jayhawk West schedule with another easy win Saturday, defeating Dodge City, 88-36 at the Barton Gym in the West home opener for the Cougars. Getting to 2-0 for the No. 3 ranked and now 16-0 Cougars was expected as games against team that are a combined 9-22. Now comes the real test in the Barton schedule with back-to-back road games at perennial Jayhawk West heavyweights Cloud County and Seward County. Barton will travel to Concordia Wednesday to take on Cloud, which is ranked No. 19 in the nation with its 12-2 record and 1-0 West mark.

Highlights
Dodge stayed with the Cougars for the early stages of the contest, trailing the Cougars 12-10 with 12:45 left in the 1st half. That would be about the extent of Dodge's upset bid. Barton followed with an 8-2 run for a 20-12 lead then put the game away later in the half with a 13-0 run to take a 40-16 lead with 4 minutes left in the half. Barton would coast to half up 48-20.

The Cougars led in the 2nd half by as  many as 54 points never less than 30 after the opening 7 seconds. No Cougar played more than 26 minutes in the contest and new Barton player Cenquis Rockett Curry played and scored. Curry joined the team in December and made her 1st appearance Saturday. She played volleyball for Barton as well.

Jessica Halsig led Barton with 18 points, hitting 8-of-8 from the floor, including 2 3-pointers. Ipek Turkyilmaz added 16, Courtney Sturdivant 14 and Andrea Bogart 10 for Barton. Inga Muciniece, among the nation's best in rebounding, grabbed 15 boards in the contest to push her average to 11.7 rebounds a game this season. She is 10th in nation. Sturdivant handed out 5 assists and snagged 4 steals for the Cougars.
