Cougars complete season with 27-3 mark; 15-1 in West play
It wasn't the celebration the Barton County Community College women's basketball team had hoped for, but it was as good as it could be this year. With the entire Barton athletic department (except men's basketball) on probation, no post season play was possible this year, nor was a shot at a Jayhawk West title. But the Cougars did what they could, ending the season with a 15-1 record in the West after an 89-78 win over Colby Wednesday at the Barton County Gym to end the season. The Cougars finished with a 27-3 overall mark and the West record will be at least in a tie for the best record in the West. Currently the Cougars are 1/2 game ahead of Seward, who is 14-1. They are the only teams to beat each other. Seward is ranked No. 2 in the nation.

Highlights
It was a bitter-sweet ending for the Cougars, who won their final 12 games of the year – the 2nd 12-game winning streak of the season. Barton jumped to a quick lead on Colby, but the Trojans would not go away quietly. Barton led by 11 midway through the opening half of action and by halftime had built a 49-29 lead on the  defending Region VI champion Trojans.

But the 2nd half would not be as productive for Barton, especially early on. Colby opened the half on a 17-2 run and had cut the Barton lead to 51-46 with 15 minutes to play in the game. The Cougars responded to push the lead back to 13 but would not be able to shake free from the Trojans the rest of the way. The Cougars led by double digits most of the final 15 mintues but never by more than 15.

DePrice Taylor, playing in front of her family for the 1st time this season, led the Cougars with 25 points followed by LaToya Jackson with 19. Gwen Edwards joined them in double figures with 11. Jamie Schroeder led 3 Colby players in double figures as well with 26.

The win gave the Cougars a 27-3 record for the season, the 3rd best in school history as far as winning percentage as the Cougars end with a .900 mark. The top 2 belong to 98-99 team that went 29-3 (.935) and the 85-86 team that went 31-3 (.912). Barton also set school record during the year for 3-pointers in a game, season and percentage. Barton also set the record for the fewest turnovers in a season. Barton came close to records in scoring and assists as well but came up with the 2nd best marks there.
