Cougars set single season 3-point record in 95-44 win over Garden
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team is putting an assault on the 3-point record book this season, surpassing the season 3-point mark Saturday night in a 95-44 win over Garden City at the Barton Gym on Hall of Fame Night and Homecoming. The Cougars knocked down 10 more treys in the win, brining their season total to 224 – one better than the old mark of 223 set in 1999-00. Barton won its 9th straight in the process and moved to 12-1 in the Jayhawk West and 24-3 overall this season. That keeps them 1/2 game up on Seward County for the best mark in the West. Seward is 11-1 on the year. Barton has 3 games left in its season, traveling to El Dorado next for a contest with Butler County Wednesday at 6 pm. Garden City falls to 1-23 overall and 0-12 in the West with the loss.

Highlights
The Cougars couldn't shake the pesky Broncbusters early in the contest, leading just 20-19 midway through the opening half of play. But Barton turned on the burners, holding Garden scoreless the final 8 minutes of the half to take a commanding 44-19 lead to halftime.

Barton continued to pour it on the Broncbusters, pushing the lead to 30 early in the half and 40 points just 6 minutes into the half at 68-27. The lead reached 50 points with 9:27 left at 76-27 as the Cougars went on 17-0 run that saw Barton take an 80-27 lead with 8 minutes to play.

The Cougars set the record for 3's in a season when Andrea Barber knocked down a 25-footer from the left wing with 7:37 to play, giving Barton an 83-28 advantage. This season the Cougars have already set the single-game record on numerous occasions the highest of which was 16 3's against Pratt.

Barton was led by freshman LaToya Jackson with 17 points – hitting 4-of-8 3-pointers. She was 1 of 5 Cougars in double figures in the win. Inga Muciniece added 15, Ipek Turkyilmaz 14 and Barber and Gwen Edwards 12 each. Muciniece collected her 12th double-double of the season with a team-high 11 rebounds. Sharniece Saunders had a big game for Garden, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 boards.

The Cougars will have back-to-back road games next week, starting in El Dorado Wednesday against Butler then on to Hutchinson Saturday.
