Cougars earn another West win; roll by Hutchinson, 68-48
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team made it another double digit win the Jayhawk West, rolling by Hutchinson Wednesday night at the Barton County, 68-48. The Cougars did so using a big start to the 2nd half, scoring 11 straight to open the 2nd 20 minutes. Barton improves to 18-3 overall with the win and 6-1 in the West. Hutch falls to 15-5 overall this year and 3-3 in the West. The Cougars will take to the road for just the 3rd time in West play Saturday with a trip to Colby to take on the defending West champion Trojans. Colby is 3-3 in the West this year and 7-13 overall.

Highlights
Barton struggled during the opening 20 minutes of action as the Hutch defense held Barton to just 10-of-33 shooting from the floor. But the Cougars were able to take a lead into halftime as Hutch made just 8-of-27 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play. Barton led at the intermission by a 27-20 count.

To start the 2nd half, Barton jumped out of the gates on a 11-0 run to push that 7-point lead to a 38-20 lead 5 minutes into the 2nd half. The lead grew to 21 points a minute later and eventually 51-27 just 8 minutes into the 2nd half. Barton was not threatened the remainder of the contest. The Blue Dragons never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way. Barton led by as many as 25 points during the half.

The Cougars shot 49 percent in the final 20 minutes, scoring 41 points on 16-of-33 shooting from the floor and 6-of-12 on 3-pointers. For the game, Barton hit 10-of-26 treys, the most in a game since 16 3-pointers in the West opener against Pratt.

Ipek Turkylimaz and LaToya Jackson combined for 9 treys, as Turkylimaz hit 5-of-8 and Jackson knocked down 4-of-8. Jackson scored 20 to pace Barton, followed by Turkylimaz with 18. Inga Muciniece grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the Cougars. Amanda Fessenden scored 23 points off the Hutch bench to the Blue Dragons. Tessa Murrow, the Blue Dragons leading scorer coming into the game, was limited to just 4 points – 13 below her average.
