Cougars breeze through Pepsi Classic to improve to 6-2
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team had very little trouble winning a pair of games at the Pepsi Classic over the weekend at the Barton County Gym. Barton rolled to an 89-50 win over McLennan County Friday night, then pasted the Kansas Wesleyan JV by a 111-42 margin Saturday. The wins move the Cougars to 6-2 for the season with two more games at the Barton Gym next weekend in the Booster Club Classic.

Highlights
Friday night the Cougars were impressive in their 89-50 win over the Highlassies of McLennan County – the back-to-back champions of the North Texas League. Barton took control of the game midway through the 1st half, turning a close 15-11 game into a commanding 44-16 lead with a 31-5 run over a 10-minute span. The Cougars took a 48-24 lead to half and never looked back, leading by as many 40 points during the 2nd half.

Barton forced 26 McLennan turnovers and turned those into 32 points, aiding in a 35-0 fast-break points advantage for the Cougars. Ipek Turkylimaz knocked down 5 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points. Tiffany Haggen added 15 points, Glen Edwards 14 and Jessica Halsig 12 in the win. LaToya Jackson handed out 7 assists to pace the Cougars.

Barton jumped to an early lead against the Kansas Wesleyan JV and never looked back. The Cougars bolted to a 10-0 lead then 29-5 before taking a 54-25 lead to halftime. Barton cruised through the 2nd half as all 10 players scored in the contest, led by Haggen with 17 and Inga Muciniece with 16. In all, 8 of the 10 Cougars reached double figures. Muciniece made it a double-double with 10 rebonds as well. Andrea Barber dished out 7 assists to pace the Cougars.

The Cougars will host Eastern Oklahoma Friday and Carl Albert (Okla) Saturday in the Booster Club Classic Thanksgiving weekend.
