Barton wins 2 at Moberly ; head to break at 12-2, riding 9-game win streak
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team made it 9 straight wins, rolling to double digit wins at the Moberly Classic in Moberly, Mo. this past weekend. Barton rolled to a 74-44 win over Three Rivers (Mo) Friday then beat host Moberly 66-53 Saturday to improve to 12-2 this season. The games were the final two non-conference games of the year for the Cougars. Barton will not play again over the Christmas Holiday and will resume action on Jan. 3 when Pratt visits the Barton County Gym for Jayhawk West play at 6 pm.

Highlights
The Cougars 30-point win on Friday was over a team that entered the game with a 5-1 record. Barton again played without the services of inside players Gwen Edwards and Tiffany Haggen, who hope to rejoin the team in January when West play begins. The absence of those 2 inside players give 6-5 freshman Inga Muciniece more playing time, which she took advantage of by collecting the 3rd highest rebound total in school history. Muciniece corralled 22 rebounds in the win, 2nd only to a pair of 24 rebound games turned in by Beth Lebsack in 1982 and Chris Garner in 1979.

Muciniece added 11 points in the win for the Cougars, who used a 19-4 run midway through the 2nd half to turn a 41-33 lead into a 60-37 advantage with 5 minutes to play. Freshman guard LaToya Jackson paced Barton with 25 points, her 3rd straight 20-point outing. DePrice Taylor joined Muciniece with 11 points in double figures. Andrea Barber dished out 7 assists as well for Barton. The Cougar defense limited Three Rivers to just 25 percent shooting from the floor forced them into 27 turnovers.

Saturday Barton had a bit of a tougher struggle, but led nearly the entire contest. Barton trailed briefly in the opening half, but came out in the 2nd half and turned a 35-27 lead into a 50-33 lead with a 15-8 run. From that point the Cougars trailed by less than double digits just once as Barton improved to 12-2 for the season. Barber and Taylor each had 19 for the Cougars while Jackson added 18 as the 3 guard combined for 56 of Barton's 66 points.
