Barton off to 2-0 start with easy wins in Pizza Hut Classic
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team rolled to a pair of easy wins to start the season in the Pizza Hut Classic at the Barton County Gym in Great Bend. Barton defeated Lincoln Land (Ill) Friday by a score of 93-52. Saturday the Cougars took care of the Tabor JV by a 124-35 score. The Cougars are now 2-0 on the season with 3 big contests ahead of them next weekend when they travel to Colby for Classic action. The Cougars will play 3 teams ranked in the Top 15. Barton will play No. 10 Iowa Western Thursday, No. 15 South Plains (Texas) Friday and No. 13 Western Nebraska Saturday.

Highlights
The Cougars dominated nearly every aspect of the game against Lincoln Land in rolling to the 41-point win. Barton led 45-29 at half and outscored the Loggers 48-23 in the 2nd half. The Cougars scored 31 points off 33 Logger turnovers. The Cougars also posted 66 points in the paint, thanks in large part to fast-break layups. Barton scored 32 fast break points.

Gwen Edwards led 5 Cougars in double figures with 15 points, followed by 12 from Latoya Jackson and 10 each from Andrea Barber, Ipek Turkyilmaz, and ChrisDell Harris. Inga Muciniece led the Cougars with 11 rebounds.

In the win over Tabor, the Cougars set a school record and tied another. Barton tied the record for largest margin of victory in the 89-point win. That matched a 108-19 win over Seward County back in 1983. In the win, Barton made 13 3-pointers to set a new mark, breaking the mark of 12 set last year against Dodge City. Other impressive numbers in the game were 72 points in the paint by the Cougars, 54 fast-break points, and 70 points off turnovers. Barton forced the Tabor JV into 46 turnovers, earning 34 steals. Barton also had 32 assists in the win.

LaToya Jackson led 6 Barton players in double figures with 21 followed by Gwen Edwards and DePrice Taylor with 17 each. Andrea Barber added 16 while Inga Muciniece and ChrisDell Harris had 12 and 11. Muciniece recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
