Cougars use 20-0 run to earn win over Hutch; run win streak to 16
When the Barton County Community College women's basketball team was lackluster for much of the opening half of basketball. But late in the 1st half, Barton found its game and used a 20-0 run in the 2nd half to put away a pesky, beaten up Hutchinson Blue Dragon team for a 68-39 win at the Barton County Gym Saturday night in Jayhawk West play. The Cougars trailed by as many as 13 points in the opening half before rallying for the win – their 16th straight win. Barton, ranked 8th in the NJCAA, is now 18-1 overall this season and remains unbeaten in West action at 5-0. Hutchinson is now 13-6 overall and 1-4 in the West. Barton will travel to Dodge City Wednesday for another Jayhawk West contest.

Highlights
Barton scored just 6 points the opening 11:45 of the game as Hutchinson built a 17-6 lead on Barton. The Cougars his just 3-of-20 shots to start the game while a deliberate Hutch hit 7 of its 1st 10 shots. The Cougars trailed 23-10 with 6 minutes to play in the opening half before the Cougars went on a 14-1 run to even the game 24-all. Hutch took a 28-27 lead into half as the Cougars hit just 26 percent from the floor and Hutch was 10-of-18.



The Blue Dragons still led 33-29 with 17:41 to play before the Cougars found 2nd gear. Spurred by KG Hellen and Brandi Harris, Barton put together a 20-0 run to take a 49-33 lead with 10:38 to play. The run grew to 30-3 as Barton outscored Hutch 41-11 in the 2nd half to grab the West win.

Barton was led by Hellen, who tossed 23 points – the 2nd highest total of her career at Barton. Harris followed with 14 points as the two combined for just 2 points less than the entire Hutch team. The Cougars forced Hutch into 33 turnovers by game's end, scoring 29 points off those turnovers. Hutch scored just 4 points off 13 Barton miscues. Harris also led Barton with 5 assists while Sharece Love grabbed 6 rebounds to pace the Cougars.

Hutch suited just 8 players for the 3rd straight game as injuries have hampered the Blue Dragons all year long. After hitting 56 percent in the opening half, Hutch made just 4-of-20 shots in the 2nd half. The 16 straight wins is the 5th longest in Barton history. A win at Dodge Wednesday would give the Cougars 17 straight, tying them for No. 4 all-time and matching the streak set in 1998-99.
