Lindley named Barton women's basketball assistant coach
Chance Lindley has been selected as the Barton County Community College women's basketball assistant coach, replacing Toni Gross, who is taking an assistant coaching position at Washburn University. Lindley comes to Barton from Wichita Collegiate School, where he guided the Spartans to the Class 3A state title this past season.

"I am very excited to move on with my career and there is no better place for me than Barton County," Lindley said. "They have a great coach and a program that been of Top 20 caliber the past two seasons. That provides a great opportunity for me."

He will be working with another former high school coach form Wichita in Barton Head Coach Lane Lord. Lord coached Wichita Heights to state titles in Class 6A in 2002 and 2003.

"Chance is a proven winner. His record speaks of itself," Coach Lord said. "I've known Chance back when played at Sunrise and have known every since. I know how hard he works and enthusiasm for the game of basketball."

In his four seasons at Collegiate, Lindley guided his teams to a combined 91-10 record with 3 straight Class 4A state tournament appearances. In his 2nd season at the helm of the Spartans, Collegiate made it to the finals of the Class 4A state tournament , finishing runner-up with a 23-3 mark, then returned in 2005 for a 3rd place finish and a 24-2 overall record. This past season, the Spartans posted a perfect mark, going 26-0 on their way to the Class 3A state title.

"At Collegiate he took a mediocre program and turned them into one of the best in the state in Class 4A and this year in Class 3A," Coach Lord said. "He was 91-10 in his four years. He took them as high as they could go. Working with him will be like having two head coaches. We have similar philosophies to the game of basketball. Not only will he be able to learn from me, but I will be learning from him as well."

Prior to coaching at Collegiate, Lindley started his coaching career as the head coach at Wichita Independent School. There he led his team to an 18-4 record in his 2nd season – the best mark in school history and more wins that the school had its 3 previous seasons combined. In his 1st season, Independent went 5-15. His overall 6-year high school coaching record of 114-29.

"I enjoyed my time at Collegiate and Independent," Lindley said. "They were great places to be. I think I left both programs in very shape when I moved on. It has been my goal to get into the college game. It is my goal become a head coach in college this is a great way to get there – to phase in as an assistant and not just walk right into the fire."

Lindley was tabbed as the 3A Coach-of-the-Year this season by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association. He was the Wichita Metro Coach-of-the-Year the past two seasons as chosen by the Wichita Eagle.
