Cougars move to 14-1 overall with win in West opener at Pratt
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team used a big run to start the 2nd half Wednesday on its way to a 71-61 win over Pratt Community College at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena in Pratt. The game was the 1st of the Jayhawk West season. The win moved Barton to 14-1 overall on the season with the perfect 1-0 mark to start West play. Pratt fell to 10-5 overall this year and 0-1 in the West. The Cougars will open the home portion of their West slate Saturday when Garden City visits the Barton County Gym at 6 p.m.



Highlights
The Cougars led 9-2 early and held that lead for most of the 1st 10 minutes of the 1st half. But Pratt rallied in the latter half of the 1st 20 minutes and took a 29-28 lead to the locker room. During the opening half, Barton wasn't able to capitalize on the Pratt errors like the Cougars usually do. Barton just an 11-7 lead in points off turnovers – a category the Cougars have dominated their foes this year.

But in the early stages of the 2nd half, the Cougars started turning those Pratt turnovers into Barton points. Following an opening basket by Pratt to make it 31-28, Barton went on a 20-0 run over the next 5 minutes to take command of the game. Of the 20 points in the run 10 came off turnovers.

Pratt was able to whittle the lead as low as 7 with just more than 5:30 to play, but Barton answered with a 6-0 run – 4 more off turnovers – to seal the win. The Cougars shot 53 percent in the 2nd half, hitting 17-of-32 shots from the floor. For the game, Barton ended with 32 points scored off Pratt turnovers.

Sunshine Misa-Uli led four Barton players in double figures with 19 points. Maya Onikute added 13 while Andrea Barber and Stephanie N'Garsanet each had 11. Barton had 19 steals in the game, led by Sharece Love with 5.
