Barton women roll by Dodge; one game from West 2nd seed in Region VI
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team took a big step toward that No. 2 seed from the West in the upcoming Region VI Tournament with an 83-61 win over Dodge City Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars made a school record 12 3-pointers in the contest. Barton is now 11-4 in the West and can secure the No. 2 seed with a win over Seward County Saturday in Great Bend. Barton is tied with Cloud County at 11-4, but the Cougars own the tiebreaker over Cloud by virtue of Barton's win at West Champion Colby earlier this year. The Cougars are 24-5 overall while Dodge City falls to 19-10 and 7-8. Seward County will bring a 24-5 and 10-5 record into the Barton Gym on Hall of Fame night.

Highlights
The Cougars took the lead early in the contest and never trailed the Conquistadors. Dodge City would not let Barton pull away from them in the opening half, trimming a once 13-point lead down to 38-33 by intermission. Dodge was able to trim the lead to 4 at 40-36 before the Cougars began to build some distance between themselves and the Conqs. A 5-0 run gave Barton a 50-40 lead with 15:32 to play following a layup from Andrea Barber. Barton extended the lead to 62-46 following a 3-pointer from Victoria Carlile with 12:18 to play. Barton would lead by double digits the rest of the way.

The lead grew to 18 points as Carlile knocked down a pair of free throws 9:18 to play at 70-52. Barton's biggest lead of the game came with the final score of 83-61 as ChrisDell Harris scored with just a few seconds to play.

During the contest, Barton knocked down 12 3-pointers to set a school record. The old mark of 11 was reached on more than one occasion, the latest in 2002. Carlile led Barton with 19 points, followed a career-high 17 points for Barber. They were joined in double figures by Brianna Buchanan with 10. Ashley Glen added 9 points and led Barton with 7 rebounds. Barber had 8 assists and Buchanan 5. The Cougars connected on 44 percent of its shots, but it was the 12-of-26 effort behind the 3-point arc that was the most impressive. Carlile hit 5 of the 3's while Barber added 3. Buchanan had 2 with Glen and KG Hellen hitting 1 each.

Barton will now turn focus toward Seward County in a battle for the 2nd seed from the West in the upcoming Region VI Tournament. A win by Barton would give them the No. 2 seed while a loss would more than likely drop them to the 4th seed.
