Brown, Davis, Grizzell round out in-state signees
Track stars have proven a good commodity for the Barton County Community College women's basketball over the years. This year's club had numerous high school track stars on it and next year's team will as well. Add to that track/basketball combination Lataisha Brown from Garden City High School. The leading scorer on her high school basketball team, Brown is also one of the top long jumpers in the state. Brown will also participate in track at Barton. She will join transfer Lindsey Davis and Melissa Grizzell as the final pieces of the in-state recruiting for Coach Lane Lord for the upcoming season.

Brown was the top long jumper in the state of Kansas this past season in prep competition. She jumped 19-7 during the season to set a school record and post the longest jump in the state at the high school level. Brown, a 5-7 guard, averaged 9.3 points and 3.4 rebounds a game last season for the Broncbusters on the basketball floor. At the state track meet, Brown won the long jump in Class 6A and took 5th in the 100m dash. She also ran on Garden City's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.

The most explosive offensive player of the group is Davis, who transferred to the Cougars after playing last season at Pratt Community College. Davis led the Beavers in scoring at 13.6 points per contest her freshman season – 10th best in the West. The Wellington graduate scored a season-high 35 points against Cloud County last season. Davis, a 5-9 guard, also averaged 4.6 rebounds and hit 75% from the free throw line.

Melissa Grizzell will be returning to the Cougar basketball team this year after a 4-year absence. The Great Bend native played one semester for Barton in 2002. The 6-2 Grizzell will provide depth at the post position.
