Barton women roll to easy wins at Jayhawk Shoot Out
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team had an easy time this weekend at the annual Jayhawk Shoot Out, rolling to a pair of blowout wins over a pair of foes from the Jayhawk East. The Cougars defeated Allen County 77-42 Friday morning then knocked off Fort Scott Saturday evening by an 80-56 count. The wins move Barton to 8-1 for the season with a pair of games this weekend at the Pizza Hut Invitational in Liberal against Casper College (Wyom) and Northeastern (Colo) Junior College.

Highlights
After an unimpressive first few minutes to the 11 am start time Friday morning, Barton County found a 2nd gear against Allen County. Leading just 9-7 four minutes into the game, Barton followed with a 16-2 run and a 25-9 lead with just less than 10 minutes to play. The Cougars lead would not dip below double digits the rest of the way with the biggest lead reaching 35.

Barton was led by Sunshine Misa-Uli with 14 points in the game but it was the play of Andrea Barber that stood out. Barber, who logged only 6 minutes in the season-opener before injuring her knee, returned to the lineup and scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 behind the 3-point arc. Maya Onikute also had 12 points for the Cougars. Onikute added 5 asssits and Barber 4 from their guard spots. Barber and Onikute along with Sharece Love had 4 steals as well.

It took Barton a little longer to pull away from Fort Scott Saturday, but the Cougars eventually got the job done. Barton never trailed in the game but were tied the Greyhounds on 4 different occasions in the 1st half. The Cougars led just 28-27 late in the opening half before an 11-4 run pushed the lead to 39-31 by half. In the 2nd half, Barton continued to pour it on, pushing the lead to 51-37 just 4 minutes into the 2nd half. The Cougars led by as many as 25 in the contest.

Onikute and KG Hellen each scored 16 for Barton in the win. They were joined in double figures by Brianna Buchanan with 14 and ChrisDell Harris with 11. Uli and Stephanie N'Garsanet each had 10 rebounds for the Cougars. Barber had 7 assists and 3 steals while Onikute had 6 assists and 4 steals.
