Barton earns home West win over Garden; remains in 2nd
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team has its sights set on a home basketball contest to start the Region VI tournament. In order to that, the Cougars must protect their home floor the rest of the West and schedule and try and steal a road win or two. Barton started that quest with a 68-56 home win over Garden City Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. The win moves Barton to 7-3 in West play, alone in 2nd place. The Cougars are now 17-7 overall this season. Garden falls to 1-8 in West action and 12-11 overall. The Cougars are off Saturday night and will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Colby for a 6 pm tip.



Highlights 
The Cougars jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game and never trailed after that. Barton led by as many as 11 in the opening half before settling for a 33-24 halftime lead. During the opening half, the Cougars were able to connect on 47 percent of its shot while holding Garden to just 9-of-27 from the floor.

In the 2nd stanza, the Cougars maintained that double digit lead the entire way, increasing it to as many as 19, 56-37, before settling for the 12-point win. The closest Garden City would get would be 10 points on several occasions.

Barton once again was dominating on the boards, something the Cougars are now doing on a regular basis. Barton outrebounded its foes from Garden by a 49-24 margin. It was the 2nd straight game the Cougars have outrebouned their opponents by more than double.

A pair of Cougars recorded double-doubles in the win paced by sophomore Vivian Ewalefo with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sunshine Uli added 10 points and 10 boards as well. Brianna Buchanan found her shooting touch again, adding 10 for Barton. Barton finished the night hitting 25-of-56 shot for 45 percent while limiting Garden to just 37 percent. Natasha Curtis led three Broncbusters in double figures with 14.
