Cougars earn first West win with drubbing of Butler
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team notched its first Jayhawk Conference win of the season, rolling by Butler County Saturday night at the Barton County Gym, 63-41. The win moved the Cougars to 11-8 overall and 1-4 in the West. Butler County fell to 10-9 and 0-5. The Cougars will go for win back-to-back West wins Wednesday when Hutch visits the Barton County Gym.

Highlights
When Barton freshman Amber Jeffrey knocked down a jumper with 12:32 to play in the opening half it gave Barton an 11-10 lead. The Cougars would not trail from that point on. Jeffrey's jumper was part of an 8-0 by Barton to take a 15-10 advantage on the Grizzlies. Butler was able to tie the game at 18-all but by halftime the Cougars had pushed the margin to 32-21.

The closest the Grizzlies would get in the 2nd half was 8 points as the Cougars pushed the lead to as high as 22 points on a couple of occasions. The Cougars shot 45 percent for the game including a 52-percent effort in the opening half. The Cougars also out-rebounded Butler by a 50-31 margin.

Freshman Tarryn Montgomery, getting her first start of the season in place of the injured Briana Harris, led the Cougars with 15 points. Freshman guard Carly Bloomfield turned in her 2nd double-double in the past 3 games with 14 points and a career-high tying 14 rebounds. Rebecca Chapman, another freshman, scored 12 points off the bench for the Cougars.
