Cougar women drop heart-breaker to Garden
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team had one slip away Saturday night at the Barton County Gym, falling to Jayhawk West foe Garden City, 55-52. The Cougars had the defending West Champions on the ropes most of the night, but let the game slip away late to fall to 0-3 in the West and 10-7 overall. Garden City improves to 1-2 in the West and 10-6 overall.

Highlights
The Cougars were on top of their game during the 1st half of action. After falling behind 4-2 to the Broncbusters, which finished 5th in the NJCAA Tournament last season, Barton went on an 18-3 run to take a 20-7 lead on Garden City. The Cougars maintained their double digit lead for most of the 1st half before settling for a 30-21 halftime lead.

Garden whittled the lead to 1 on a couple of occasions in the 2nd half, but Barton continue to fight off the Broncbusters and opener its lead back up to 10 points at 48-38 with 8 minutes to play in the game. With just more than 6 minutes to play, Barton still led 52-43 but the Cougars would not score the remainder of the contest. Garden City went on a 13-0 run to end the game and earn the win. During that run, the Cougars committed 5 turnovers and missed 2 field goals in the game's final 3:30.

Akia Harmon and Carly Bloomfield had big games for the Cougars in the loss as Harmon scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Bloomfield scored 15 points and also snagged a career-high in rebounds, leading Barton with 14 during the loss. Jasmine Irving of Garden led all scorers with 22.
