Cougars fall into tie for 6th with loss at Garden
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team dropped into a 6th-place tie Saturday night, coming on strong just a little bit late as the Cougars rally fell short at Garden City 62-56 in a Jayhawk West contest. The loss by Barton dropped them into a 6th place with Garden in the league standings at 3-8. Barton is 13-12 overall while Garden is 12-12. The Broncbusters hold the tiebreaker, having beaten the Cougars twice this season.

Highlights
The opening 20 minutes was a half of runs as Garden had a 10-0 run early and Barton a 17-2 that followed. By half one point separated the teams with Barton leading 26-25. The Broncbusters dominated much of the 2nd half, building what look like a insurmountable lead at 57-39 with 6 minutes to play.

Barton started putting the pressure on the Broncbusters, slashing away at the lead but just ran out of time. Barton held Garden with a point for more than 4 minutes down the stretch and cut the lead to 58-48 with 1:48 still to play. The Cougars continued to whittle at the lead getting it to the final 6-point margin before time expired.

Akia Harmon led four Barton player in double figures with 13 points, followed by Carly Bloomfield with 12. Tarryn Montgomery and Rebecca Chapman both came off the bench to net 10 for the Cougars. Nicole Thomas was the thorn in the side of the Cougars, coming off the bench to 6-of-7 shots and 6-of-9 free throws to lead the Broncbusters with 18 points. The West's leading scorer, Jasmine Irving, ended with 12 for Garden.
