Cougar women drop West decision to No. 16 Cloud County
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team came up short in its upset bid Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym, falling to No. 16 Cloud County by a 67-54 score. The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-6 in the West and 12-10 overall. Cloud County improved to 19-3 and 6-2. The Cougars will attempt to snag an upset Saturday in Liberal against No. 9 Seward County.

Highlights
Cloud took an early lead on the Cougars, jumping out to a 15-6 advantage on Barton. From that point on the game stayed in that 10-point area. The Thunderbirds biggest lead of the game was 16 points once and 14 on a couple of occasions while the Cougars cut the T-Bird lead to 8 as late at the 10-minute mark of the 2nd half but could get no closer.

Barton again struggled with turnovers, committing 22 for the game to just 10 for Cloud. Barton out-rebounded Cloud 39-30 and hit an impressive 19-of-22 free throws in the loss. Barton shot 55 percent from the floor in the 2nd half but couldn't overcome the 5-for-27 shooting in the opening half as well as the turnovers.

Carly Bloomfield found the 20-point mark for the 2nd straight as the freshman ended right at 20 points, just 1 shy of her career-high. Akia Harmon added 11 points and 11 rebounds to post her 6th career double-double for the Cougars. Freshman Rebecca Chapman added 10 off the bench. Cloud's Liz Kramer led all scorers with 21 points.
