Barton women earn pair of Shoot-Out win; improves to 10-2
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team went into defensive lockdown during their weekend at the Jayhawk Shoot-Out in Coffeyville. The result was a pair of wins over two Jayhawk East foes that ran the Cougars mark to 10-2 overall this season and moved its current winning streak to 5 games.

The Cougars scored a 58-51 win over Johnson County Friday then pulled away from Allen County Saturday for a 56-37 win. Barton still has two more non-conference games to play this weekend in Liberal at the Seward County Invite.

Highlights
The Cougars trailed Johnson County most of the opening half Friday morning, going into the locker room down by a 31-26 count. In that half the Cavalier shot 36 percent in order to take the halftime lead. That would be the final time all weekend a team would score more than 20 points in a half against Barton or shoot better than 26 percent in a half.

In the 2nd half against Johnson the Cougars held the Cavaliers those 20-point, 26-percent numbers while hitting 41 percent themselves and scoring 32 points to post the 8-point win. It wasn't until the final 5 minutes of play that Johnson finally reached double digits in the half. Freshman Saara Pelttari led the Cougars with 14 points – hitting 4-of-5 3-pointers – while sophomore point guard Natalie Arndt scored 11 points and flirted with a triple-double by adding 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Briana Harris grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Barton.

Saturday afternoon the Cougars got off to slow start offensively but rode a strong defense once again. By halftime Barton had found their offense to build 29-19 lead on Allen County. The 2nd half was similar as Barton outscored Allen 27-18 for the win. Once again it was the defense that led Barton as Allen hit just 23 percent from the floor for the game Barton tied a school-record with 14 blocked shots. Akia Harmon had 5 blocks in the game while Harris and Carly Bloomfield added 4 and 3.

Tarryn Montgomery led the Cougars with 11 points followed by Bloomfield and Rebecca Chapman with 10 each. Arndt again put up good numbers across the board with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. The Cougars again hit 40 percent from the floor and knocked down 6-of-12 3-point attempts.
