Cougar women fall short of upset bid
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team nearly pulled off another upset at home, but this time fell short of the No. 19 ranked Garden City Broncbusters. Barton just missed out on defeating the Jayhawk West leaders, losing 56-54 at the Barton County Gym.

The loss drops Barton County to 10-15 overall and 3-8 in the Jayhawk West. Garden City is now 21-4 overall and 9-2 in the West.

Highlights
The Cougars, playing without leading scorer Heather Nittler who missed the game with the flu, battled through 11 lead changes before falling to Garden City. The game was tied with four minutes to play and Barton County had chances to take the lead in the final two minutes, but couldn't get ahead of the Broncbusters.

The Cougars hit 42 percent of their shots in the second half, but 23 turnovers proved costly. Garden City had 16 turnovers in the first 12 minutes of the game, but ended with just 22 for the contest.

Natalie Arndt had a career-high for the Cougars with 19 points. Akia Harman added 9 points and 7 rebound for Barton. Briana Harris led the Cougars with 8 boards.

Garden City was paced by Jasmine Irving with 20 and Krystle Jim with 16.

The Cougars will be off Wednesday before heading to Colby Saturday for a big contest with the Trojans. Barton, currently 7th in the West, has 6th place Colby in its sights.
