Barton women beaten by No. 16 Garden City
The Barton County Community College women's basketball couldn't make it two in a row, falling to No. 16 Garden City on the road, 96-70 in Jayhawk West action Saturday.

The Cougars are now 1-2 in the West and 8-9 overall. Garden City is 2-1 and 14-3.

Highlights
In one of the better offensive outputs for the Cougars this season, Barton County hung with the No. 16 team in the country for quite a while. Barton led by as many as 7 points in the first five minutes of the game, but Garden City caught fire behind the 3-point arc and took a 52-35 lead to halftime.

The Broncbusters pushed that lead to 19 points in the second half before the Cougars gave them one more scare. Barton rolled off 9 unanswered points as Sue McIntosh scored the first four, followed by an Amber Harrington putback. Natalie Arndt buried a 3-pointer with 10:37 to go and the Cougars were back in the game, trailing 67-57. Barton even had two possessions to the game into single digits, but came up empty.

Garden City followed with an 11-1 run to push the lead back to 20 points and cruise to the win. Heather Nittler led the Cougars with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point land. Arndt added 10 points and 8 assists.
