Barton women score upset win over Dodge City
The shooting woes that plagued the Barton County Community College women's basketball team the past two games were gone Saturday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars upset Dodge City by a 69-66 score in Jayhawk West play.

With the loss, the Cougars are now 2-5 in the Jayhawk West and 9-12 overall. Dodge City falls to 4-3 in the West and 16-5 overall.

Highlights
The Cougars burned the net for 54 percent shooting in the opening half, but trailed at the intermission by a 38-36 score. The Cougars, however, turned up the defense in the second half to earn the home win over the Conquistadors.

Barton led much of the second half, but found themselves down by 7 late in the contest before the pressure defense began forcing Dodge City into numerous turnovers. Those turnovers led to some easy baskets by the Cougars down the stretch. That, and a 16-of-21 effort at the free throw line in the second half paced the Cougars to the win.

Michelle Deighton scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Cougars to the win, followed closely by Heather Nittler with 16. The two combined to hit 13-of-17 free throws as well as 4-of-9 treys on the night.

Elna Diaz and Ronnie Maglaughlin each scored 12 to pace Dodge City.
