Barton women run win streak to 4
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team has put that season-opening loss in the rear view mirror, winning its 4th consecutive contest of the season. The Cougars latest win came on the opening day of the Midland College/High School Classic in Midland, Texas. Barton knocked off the College of Southern Idaho Thursday night, 50-47.

The win moves Barton County to 4-1 for the year.

Highlights
The two teams traded the lead for most of the contest, with neither team able to get control of the basketball contest. The Cougars did hold a slim lead for much of the contest, including in the final minutes as they put the game away.

Leading 48-45, the Cougars saw Southern Idaho trim the lead to 48-47 with less than one minute to play. But Southern Idaho only had two teams fouls at the time and spent valuable seconds pushing that foul total to seven to send the Cougars to the line. Finally, with just 5 seconds to play, Barton's Akia Harmon got to shoot a 1-and-1, converting both free throws for the 3-point lead.

Southern Idaho did not get a shot off thanks the full-court pressure of the Cougars, locking up the 4th straight win for the Cougars.

Sue McIntosh paced Barton with 14 points, followed by Harmon with 9. Amber Harrington and Briana Harris each had 8. Michelle Deighton grabbed 9 rebounds for the Cougars, followed by Harris with 8. Heather Nittler contributed 4 steals and 3 assists.

Coach Don Kayser comments
It was kind of an ugly game, but our girls just found a way to win. We found out that if you actually do a few things right at the end of game what that does for you. We did those things.

We really got some good minutes from Amber Harrington off the bench. She didn't play a lot of minutes, but she really some good minutes and settled us down.
