Cougars winning streaks ends at two

The Barton County women's basketball team came up short in its bid for three straight wins Wednesday night, dropping a heart-breaker to Garden City, 73-71, at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars fell to 3-9 in the Jayhawk West with the loss and 8-18 overall. Garden City improves to 3-8 and 15-10.

Highlights

The game was back-and-forth most of the night with Barton County having a chance to win the game at the end of regulation. The Cougars had the ball with the shot clock off and the game tied at 71-all. But a Sarah Kendrick miss with seven seconds to play was rebounded by Garden City's Chareka Terry, who raced the length of the floor and hit a layup with 1.2 seconds to play for the win.

Briana Book and Kendrick each scored 17 to lead the Cougars. Melissa Cox tied her career-high of 15 rebounds as well. Terry and Kelley Kramer each had 12 for the Broncbusters and Krystle Jim added 10. Terry also grabbed 15 boards for the Broncbusters.

Next Up

The Cougars will try to rebound as they travel to No. 8 Butler County Saturday night. The Grizzlies has lost two straight contests this week and are now 8-3 in the West and 23-3 overall. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
