Cougars rally falls short

The Barton County women's basketball again put a scare in its opponent, but was unable to come away with the victory. The Cougars lost at Hutchinson in Jayhawk West action, falling to the Blue Dragons, 68-57. Barton is now 5-15 overall and 0-6 in Jayhawk West play. Hutchinson is 17-2 and 2-3.

Highlights

In losses to Garden City and Butler County the Cougars shot the ball very well but it was turnovers that plagued them. This time the it was the opposite. Barton County cut its turnovers down by 18 against Hutchinson from the previous game, but hit only 29 percent of its shots at the Sports Arena. The main troubles shooting for the Cougars came from behind the 3-point arc, where they hit just 1-of-19 shots.

Both teams committed 21 turnovers and grabbed 42 rebounds, but the Blue Dragons hit 34 percent from the floor to earn the win.

Melissa Cox had a big-game for the Cougars, scoring 11 points and setting a career-high with 15 rebounds -- the highest total for a Barton County player in two years. Sarah Kendrick scored 16 to lead the Cougars and Jenny Brown added 13. Brittany Dietz and  Pam Mayes each scored 15 to pace the Blue Dragons.
