Seward County proves too much for Barton

            The Barton County women's basketball team hung around the No. 4 ranked team in the country Wednesday night, but in the end an upset would not be in the making. The Cougars fell to Seward County, 89-67 at the Barton County Gym. The loss dropped Barton County to 6-17 overall and 1-8 in the Jayhawk West. Seward County is now 23-0 and 9-0.  

 

Highlights

            The Cougars battled with Seward County for much of the first half, tying the game at 27-all at one point. But the Saints put together a 19-6 run after that and took a 13-point lead to halftime. The Cougars flirted with getting the game under 10 points on several occasions in the second half, but couldn't get to single digits. Seward eventually pulled way for the win.

            Barton County was led by Briana Book with 19 points and Jenny Brown added 10 points and eight rebounds. Book added five assists as well. Tracy Wynn led Seward County with 23 points, paced by a 13-of-15 effort at the free throw line. Kim Ortega also scored 23 for the Saints, who haven't lost a regular season the past three years.

 

Next Up

            The Cougars hit the road Saturday, heading to Dodge City for another West battle. Dodge City is 2-8 in the West and 13-11 overall. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
