Cougars fall to Garden City

            The Barton County women's basketball team came up short in its bid for its first conference win Wednesday night, losing at Garden City, 82-74. The loss dropped the Cougars to 0-4 in Jayhawk West play and 5-13 overall. Garden City is 1-2 and 13-4.

 

Highlights

            The contest was close throughout but 28 turnovers and a 60 percent effort at the free throw line proved to the difference it the game for the Cougars. Barton hit just 26-of-43 free throws after starting the game off by making their first 12 charity attempts. In the second half, Barton hit just 12-of-23 free throws.

            The Cougars out rebounded Garden City, 45-40, and out shout the Broncbusters (44 percent to 41 percent), but couldn't overcome the turnovers and free throw woes. Stacy Lee led Barton with 11 points, hitting 3 3-pointers during the game. Sarah Kendrick and Kristina Grbich each added 10. Kelley Kramer, who also hit 3 treys, led Garden City with 26 points. Chareka Terry added 20 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Next Up

            The Cougars return home Saturday to tangle with the No. 4 ranked Bulter County. The Grizzles are 17-0 on the season and 3-0 West play. Tip for the game will be at 6 p.m.
