Cougar women drop two at Shoot-Out

Cougar women drop two at Shoot-Out

The Barton County Community College women's basketball team continued to struggle over the weekend, dropping two games at the Jayhawk Conference Shoot-Out in Coffeyville. Barton County dropped a heart-breaker Friday to Fort Scott, 52-51 then lost to Kansas City Kansas Sunday morning, 92-71.

Highlights

Friday night the Cougars led just about the entire contest. A run during the first allowed Barton County to build a 32-22 halftime lead on the Greyhounds, but Fort Scott captured the win in the game's final moments. Barton County was led by Stacy Lee with 11 points and Briana Book with 10.

Three Cougars scored in double figures Sunday morning, but it wasn't enough as KCK hit 50 percent from the floor and Barton County turned the ball over 25 times. Lee again led the way with 15 points. Sarah Kendrick added 13 and Book tossed in 12.

The Cougars again played the event without leading rebounder Jenny Brown, who is also averaging nearly 10 points a game. The 6-2 sophomore is recovering from a stress fracture in her leg and will probably not see action until January.

Next Up

Barton County will head to Missouri before taking some time off for the Holidays. The Cougars will play at Moberly Community College Saturday at 5 p.m., then finish up the first semester with a contest in Sedalia against St. Fair. That game will take place Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
