Nittler headed to Barton County

Nittler headed to Barton County

After one season at Fort Hays State University, Heather Nittler decided to make the decision she didn't make one year ago -- to attend Barton County Community College and play women's basketball for the Cougars.

Nittler narrowed her choices out of Medicine Lodge High School to either Fort Hays or Barton and chose Fort Hays instead of the Cougars.

"I was going to come here last year, but I changed my mind at the end and went to Fort Hays," Nittler said. "Now I'm making the right decision to come here for one year and move on from there."

While at Medicine Lodge High School, the 5-7 Nittler was a multisport star for the Indians. She lettered in basketball, volleyball, softball, and cross country during her four years. On the basketball court is where she shined, earning 1st team All-State in Class 3A her senior season and 2nd team as a junior.

Her senior season she averaged 16 points a game, dished out 6.2 assists, swiped 5.4 steals, and grabbed 5.3 rebounds. During her four years with the Indians, Nittler scored 1,354 points.

Last season with the Tigers, Nittler appeared in all 27 games, but averaged just 12 minutes a contest, but was still third on the team in assists from her point guard spot. She led the team in assists on five occasions.

It is a decision that makes Barton Coach Don Kayser very happy.

"We recruited her hard a year ago, now he have her," Coach Kayser said. "She is a very gifted athlete than will definitely help our basketball team."
