Barton shuts out Brown Mackie twice for sweep of Lions
The Barton County Community College softball team had an easy day Tuesday in Salina, rolling to a pair of wins over Brown Mackie, 15-0 and 13-0 in run-rule contests. The Cougar power was at it again as Barton belted 5 homers in the 2 contests. The wins were the 4th straight for the Cougars, who improve to 12-17 on the season. Barton will be at home Thursday when Cloud County visits Cougar Fields for a 3 pm doubleheader in Region VI play.

Highlights
The Cougars didn't separate themselves from Brown Mackie in the 1st game for a few innings as Barton scored in just 1 of the 1st 3 innings. The Cougars plated 4 in that inning then added 3 more in the 4th on an Alicia Salazar 3-run homer for a 7-0 lead. The Cougars blew the game open in the 5th with an 8-run outburst for the 15-0 win. Salazar, Deanna Young and Brittney Allen each drove in 2 in the inning.

Brigette Hitschmann allowed just 3 hits in the shutout win, striking out 4 in the process. She improves to 5-5 with the win. Salazar ended the game with 6 RBI, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Raesz homered in the 2nd while Allen had 3 hits, 3 RBI, and scored 3 runs.

Barton scored in every inning in the game, slowing pulling away from the Lions for the win. Christine Cervera allowed just 3 hits and struck out 5 in the 5-inning win game and improves to 3-2. Raesz again homered in the contest, joined by Allen and Whitney Boeh. Boeh hit a 2-run shot in the 4th while Allen belted a 2-run shot in the 6th along with a solo homer from Raesz. Allen finished with 3 RBI and Salazar scored 3 times.

The Cougars have hit 36 home runs in their 29 games, led by Boeh with 8. She is followed by Allen with 7 and Salazar and Myra Ramos with 6 each. Eight different players have homered for the Cougars. Salazar, Allen, Ramos, and Raesz all have 27 RBI to lead the team. Barton is hitting .337 as team, led by Salazar at .425. Also over .400 is Allen at .419 with Erin Humphrey close at .390.

Barton will look to run its winning streak to a season-best 5 or 6 games Thursday when Cloud visits for Region VI play.
