Barton's Lloyd earns conference field athlete of the week honor #GoBarton

Barton Track and Field's Brandon Lloyd - Week 2 KJCCC Field Athlete of the Week

Brandon Lloyd of the Barton Community College men's track and field team has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Week Two Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Lloyd had a pair of national qualifying performances this past weekend as the Cougars opened the indoor season competing in the Graduate Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.

On Friday, Lloyd picked up his first indoor championship qualifying ticket in the weight throw by marking a 17.05m (55-11.25) to better his personal best by over 4-feet 6-inches. Lloyd was joined by Christopher Crawford as a qualifier as the freshman's debut produced a 16.20m (53-01.75) mark.

It took Lloyd just his second throw on Saturday for a 3rd place mark in the shot put as the sophomore capped the opening weekend moving up two spots on the all-time list to the 5th furthest throw at 17.87m (59-07.50). A pair of freshmen joined Lloyd in the event as Christopher Young's 16.59m (54-05.25) and Crawford's 16.40m (53-09.75) were good for 7th and 8th place respectively of the 28-man field.

The weekly award is the third for Lloyd after earning an indoor and outdoor distinction during his freshman campaign.

Lloyd and the Cougars are back in action this Saturday in Topeka, Kansas, competing in the Washburn Rust Buster at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
