Reloaded Cougars debut with eleven track and field national qualifying performances #GoBarton

The Barton Community College track and field teams opened up the 2022 indoor season on Friday with eleven national qualifying performances competing in the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

The Cougars captured two events amongst their pair of personal bests and five national qualifying performances including a program top ten effort while the Lady Cougars posted three personal bests and six performances punching an early trip to nationals.

Barton heads back to Texas again on Friday, traveling to Lubbock for the Red Raider Open.

Highlights
Elijah Mosley made an impressionable Cougar debut in the 400m, clocking a runner-up 47.14 time for tenth best in program history in grabbing the country's early top two-year collegiate time.
Ali Moore won the twenty-six entry 60m in a time of 6.76 for a new personal best and a fifth place national ranking.

Almond Small beat out twenty-four competitors in the 200m with a 21.71 clocking as Moore posted his second personal best of the day in a fourth place 21.84 time.

Brandon Lloyd and Giovanni Gutierrez finished first and third in the shot put respectively, Lloyd with a 16.63m (54-06.25) mark while Gutierrez finished just a quarter of an inch from second place with a 15.79m (51-09.75) toss.

In the women's shot put, just like the men in chalking up the early first and third place marks in the nation, Kelsie Murrell-Ross' debut recorded a leading 13.86m (45-05-75) mark in placing third on Friday while Jada Sewell's 12.76m (41-10.50) placed eighth in the event.

On the track Jayda Dillon had a strong showing in clocking a personal best 7.85 in the 60m preliminary round, placing fifth overall of the twenty-seven member field with a eyelash slower 7.86.

Danae Nembhard, who would edge out Dillon for seventh place of the 200m, took third in 60m hurdles with a national qualifying 8.78 time with Ashanti Harvey taking seventh in 9.21 of the twenty-five hurdle field.

Naiya Morgan had a solid fifth place 400m debut with a national qualifying 57.31 time while Kayan Green clocked a personal best 5:29.03 1-mile time in place 9th.

Both 4x400m relay teams clocked nationally qualifying times, the men with second best 3:15.01 in taking third place while the women clocked a third best 3:59.44 in placing fourth.
