Barton Sports Student Athletes of the Week for Week of 09/07/21

Barton Women's Cross Country runner Karina Herrera and Men's Tennis player Gustavo Campos have earned the week 3 "Barton Sport's Weekly Athletic Award Honors."

Karina Herrera of the Women's Cross Country team posted a top-20 performance in her collegiate debut at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic held in Hutchinson, KS. The freshman from Dodge City, KS posted the 20th fastest time of 20:21.7 around the three-lap mile course. Head Coach David Schenek on Herrera's performance, "Karina had our all around best performance of the night for our team and really set the bar high in her first collegiate meet."

Herrera and the Cougars next compeition is scheduled for September 24th for the Emporia State Cross Country Invitational held at Jones Park in Emporia, KS.

Gustavo Campos of the Men's Tennis team was a huge asset to both soccer teams this past weekend simply doing a job that goes unnoticed and underappreciated. The freshman donated five of his own hours Saturday to help reteive soccer balls that left the playing surface. Despite tempatures in the mid-90's Campos was constantly working one whole side of the field by himself providing the teams with soccer balls that kept the game rolling smoothly without any delays.
