No. 22 Barton men’s tennis gets back on track with victory over Ottawa University

The Barton Community College men's tennis team snapped a two match losing streak Saturday as the No. 22 ranked Cougars defeated Ottawa University 7-2.  Played at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, Barton won two of the three doubles matches and five of the seven singles to improve to 2-3 on the season.  

The duo of Dominic Fabiano and Matthew Rochat remained solid at the No. 2 doubles winning 8-4 over the Braves' Raj Selvaraj and Brandon Edwards.   At the No. 1 duo match, Alvaro Martinez and Vitor Schuler fell by the same 8-4 score to Jacob Brendemuehl and Brenson Vile.The Cougars picked up the forfeit victory at the No. 3 slot to gain the 2-1 match edge. 

Martinez picked up a win in the No. 1 singles when Brendemuehl had to retire only two games into the match.  Schuler came away with a victory in the No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 over Vile while Ottawa's Sevaraj took the No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Fabiano.  The Cougars got back in the win column in the No. 4 slot as Rochat defeated Edwards 7-5, 6-1 while Trevor Carey had the toughest victory of the day outlasting the Braves' Austin Hale 7-6, 6-4.  Just like the doubles matches, Barton picked up another forfeit victory in the last slot claiming the win in the No. 6 singles. 

Barton's next action will come Tuesday, April 7, as the Cougars head to Hesston, Kansas, for a 2:00 p.m. duel at Hesston College.
