Cougar Tennis vaults into final poll to finish 13th in nation
After finishing 12th at the 2014 NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships, the unranked Barton Community College men’s tennis team jumped into 13th place of the final release of the season’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National rankings. The Cougars’ placing, the largest upward movement in the polls by any team in the nation, was the third best ranking of fellow Region VI teams as Cowley College finished fourth and Johnson County Community College came in at ninth. Seward County Community College also joined the mix of ranked region teams finishing at twenty-second.

Cougar Tennis concludes National Championship with 12th place finish, highest since 2009
The Barton Community College men’s tennis team concluded the 2014 season Thursday in Plano, Texas, as the Cougars wrapped up play at the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championship. Three Cougars competed on the fourth day of competition helping Barton to its highest national placing since 2009 to finish 12th in the nation out of twenty-seven teams.

Cougar Tennis sends three to consolation semifinals of NJCAA Championships
As the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championship in Plano, Texas, winds down to its final two days of competition, three Barton Community College men’s tennis team members have stood the test. The Cougars lost all but one singles player in day three while one doubles tandem will see day four as well.

Barton Men’s Tennis gets three to National Quarterfinals, Day Two not as kind to the Cougars
The second day at the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championship looked promising for the Barton Community College men’s tennis team entering play with all six single players in the Round of 16. With the sun setting on the day’s action in Plano, Texas, the Cougars took a hit leaving only two singles in the championship bracket, one in the consolation bracket, and three being eliminated from competition. Doubles play wasn’t much friendlier to the Cougars with one duo alive in the championship bracket while the other two tandems were sent to the consolation bracket.

Cougar Tennis gets all six singles to Round of 16 at National Championship
The Barton Community College men’s tennis team began play today at the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championship in soggy Plano, Texas. The Cougars won all three of their scheduled first round matches taking place in the early morning times before play was halted due to weather conditions forcing the postponement of some singles matches and all the doubles matches. With an expected change of tournament schedule, Barton will resume play on Tuesday with match times updated early Tuesday morning.

With disappointing results in last year’s Region Tournament, the Barton Community College men’s tennis team looks to avenge last season as the team begin region tournament play Friday held at Wichita’s Riverside Tennis Center.

Martinez pulls off second straight upset as Cougar Tennis falls at No. 11 Johnson County
For the second straight week sophomore Alvaro Martinez pulled an upset on a nationally ranked opponent but his one victory wasn’t enough as the Barton Community College men’s tennis team lost 6-3 Thursday at No. 11 Johnson County Community in Overland Park, Kansas. Martinez, who moved into the No. 1 singles spot due to the Cougars’ Vinicius Ono resting a sore body, won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) over Johnson’s No. 8 ranked Spartak Rahachou to capture one of two singles matches for the Cougars. Chase Buntain picked up the other victory in a 6-2, 6-2, decision in the No. 6 singles. Johnson County, who was also playing without one of their top players, captured the top two doubles matches before the Cougars’ Austin Jacobs and Chase Buntain pulled out an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 slot. With the loss Barton ends the regular season at 4-6 heading into Region VI postseason beginning on Friday, April 25 in Wichita, Kansas.

Martinez pulls off upset but No. 19 Cougar Tennis falls to No. 9 Cowley
Depth was the big story Tuesday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts, as the Barton Community College men’s tennis team won 2-of-3 in the top two matches but fell to the depth of No. 9 ranked Cowley College 7-2. The Cougars outscored the Tigers 29-18 in the top doubles and top two singles matches but Cowley got the better of the Cougars in the remaining matches 64-13. The loss drops Barton to 4-5 on the season heading into Thursday’s 1:00 p.m. regular season finale at Johnson County Community College.

No. 19 Cougar Tennis blanks opponent for second straight match
For the second consecutive match, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College men’s tennis team dominated in a team as the Cougars picked up a 9-0 win over Midland University Saturday morning. Played at the tennis courts located at the Ellinwood Grade School, the Cougars only lost eighteen games in the match sweep to improve to 4-4 on the season. The Cougars improve to 3-4 on the season returning to Vet’s Park on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. dual with Midland University. Barton will wrap up regular season play on Thursday as the Cougars travel to Overland Park, Kansas, in a 1:00 p.m. duel with Johnson County Community College.

No. 19 Cougar Tennis shuts out Hesston College for 9-0 win
The No. 19 ranked Barton Community College men’s tennis team dominated Hesston College 9-0 Tuesday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. The Cougars improve to 3-4 on the season returning to Vet’s Park on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. dual with Midland University.

Shorthanded Cougar Tennis falls to a pair or ranked teams, goes 1-2 in Oklahoma
The shorthanded No. 19 ranked Barton Community College men’s tennis team went 1-2 over the weekend at the tough Seminole State College Trojan Classic held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Playing with the limited services of the Cougars No. 1 singles player Vinicius Ono, Barton battled through the always challenging SSC Classic. On Friday the Cougars began the day with an 8-1 loss to host and No. 4 ranked Seminole State then battled to a 5-4 loss to Jayhawk foe No. 20 ranked Seward County Community College. Barton bounced back on Saturday getting a narrow 5-4 victory over New Mexico Military Institute to wrap up the Classic. The weekend’s matches drop Barton to 2-4 on the season with little rest ahead as the Cougars return to the hard court on Tuesday in hosting a 3:00 pm. dual with Hesston College.

Ono and Martinez knock off nation’s top ranked doubles team as Cougar Tennis scores 6-3 win over No. 9 Seward County
The Barton Community College tennis men’s team battled to a 3-3 match score but received three forfeit wins to pick up a 6-3 team victory over No. 9 Seward County Community College Saturday at the Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. Barton improves to 1-1 on the season while the shorthanded Saints fall to 0-2. Next up for the Barton will be a trip to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for two days of tough competition at the Seminole State College Trojan Classic being held April 4-5.
