Barton Soccer responds with two goal shutout victory over Dodge City
Bouncing back from last Friday’s disappointing loss in Concordia, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team scored in each half Wednesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex compiling a 2-0 shutout victory over Dodge City Community College. The Cougars improve to 1-1 in conference play and 3-1 on the season while keeping the Conquistadors winless on the season at 0-2-1 in the West and 0-4-2 on the year. Barton will next turn its sights on Sunday’s home conference opponent as the Cougars look to snap a three game slide against Pratt Community College. Kick off slated for 3:00 p.m. being preceded by the Lady Cougars game at 1:00 p.m.

Barton got a little help from the Conquistador defense on its first of two goals on the day as reigning conference goalkeeper of the week Eric Edge and a defender collided in the box leaving a hole of opportunity. Connecting on the wrong side of the goal post just three minutes into the contest, Mario Ramirez wouldn't miss out on his second attack punching in his first collegiate goal giving Barton the eventual game winner just under five minutes off the clock.
With the exception of Edge snubbing out Luca Perez' shot just inside the eighteen at the 33:20 mark of the second frame, most action stayed mostly between the eighteens until the final fifteen minutes.
Julio Vicente's cross attempt at the fourteen minute mark nearly gave Barton a two goal lead but Edge's alert leaping deflection over the crossbar kept the net clean. Five minutes later Cougar keeper of the frame Juan Parente made a clutch save of his own corralling a deflected free kick.
The Cougars then countered the attack eventually finding Ramirez in the midfield who then sent a perfectly placed through ball to Jose Escobedo. Joining the first collegiate goal club, Escobedo finished off the play with 8:07 remaining to ice the game.
