Barton men's golf places 14th at NJCAA National Preview #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's golf team got the opportunity to see what lies ahead next spring as the Cougars placed 14th Friday in the NJCAA Division I National Preview event held across two days at Odessa Country Club in Odessa, Texas.

The Cougars opened the first of the three rounds with a 308 to sit in 12th place of the fifteen team field.  Holding steady for the final two round with 309 rounds, Barton fell to 14th finishing with a 62-over 926.

Barton's six players averaged 8-over 79 for their rounds, finishing with eleven strokes of each other. Carlos Hamou and Pontus Nordstrom tied for the team low honors at 18-under for the three rounds in placing tied for 64th of the 96-player field. Tom Lehmann earned team bragging rights for the lowest round during the two days of action, firing an opening 19th best 1-over before sliding down the chart with rounds in the 80's.

Midland College won the event with a combined 15-under 849 while Odessa College was runner-up on a 10-under 854 score and Indian Hills Community College earning the third spot at 3-under 861.  Defending national champion Hutchinson Community College led the four Region VI entries shooting even par in finishing with a 364.  Dodge City placed 8th (24-over, 888) while Garden City Community College was right behind in 9th (31-over, 895).

The meet concludes the fall season for the Cougars as the spring schedule will resume in March.
