Nordstrom fires 6-under leading Cougars to Barton Invite title #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's golf team won their second straight tournament, holding on for a five stroke win Monday in their own Barton Invitational held at Junction City's Rolling Meadows Golf Course.

Barton men's golfer Pontus Nordstrom with an approach shot on the way to victory in the 2021 Barton Invitational at Junction City's Rolling Meadows Golf Course The Cougars shot a 298 on Sunday, five strokes ahead of Kansas City Kansas Community College, holding off the Blue Devils in Monday's round at each team posted an improved 295. Barton finished at 17-over par for a 593 while KCK combined for a 22-over 598 with Fort Scott a distant third of the five team event at 74-over 650. Coffeyville came in fourth at 100-over 676 while the "B" squad of Barton finished fifth at 111-over 687.

Pontus Nordstrom won his second straight tournament, opening the two-day event with a 3-over 75 before blistering the course on Monday in climbing three spots with a 6-under 66 to win by five strokes at 3-under 141. The 66 card was the program's best since Natchapol Srinoon fired off 65 and 66 rounds at the 2015 KWU Invitational held at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Nordstrom won the Central Kansas Classic two week's ago with a three round even-par total, following up Peeranat Suporn's 4-under winning one-day score in the season opening Iowa Central Fall Kickoff giving the Cougars three straight individual victories.

Firing a 1-under 71 to lead after Sunday's first round, Tom Gehring slid into a tie for the third spot following a 5-over 77 as Tom Lehmann's three spot climb posted 76-72 rounds to join Gehring at 4-over 148.

Great Bend's Brantley Baldwin was one of four players to shoot par or better on Monday, climbing two spots after a 77 with the even-par 72 to place fifth in the twenty-eight man field at 5-over 149.

The Cougars have a near two weeks before they hit the links again, traveling to Kansas City October 11-12 for the KCK Classic held at Dub's Dread Golf Club
