Suporn leads four Barton golfers in top seven of Iowa season opener #GoBarton

Barton men's golfer Peeranat Suporn strikes an approach shot during the 2021 Region VI/District III Championships

The Barton Community College men's golf team opened their 2021 season with a second place finish at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff Monday at Fort Dodge's Country Club.

The Cougars posted a 7-over 291 in the one round Kickoff, trailing host Iowa Central's 2-under 282 score on the par 71 course.

Peeranat Suporn and Iowa Central's Michel Van Zijl tied for the field's top score of 4-under 67 in leading four Cougars in the top seven of the 37-man field.  Suporn played as an individual so his score didn't play a part of team score but the Tritons would have still won the title by a stroke.

One stroke behind the leaders were Tom Lehmann and the Tritons' Austin Erickson at 3-under 68 as the top four players were the lone participants below par.

Ethan Bonnett and Tom Gehring were among six players tied for the seventh spot at 3-over 74 while Carlos Hamou rounded out Barton's top four team scorers with a 4-over 75 to place 13th.

Pontus Nordstrom led the remaining four Cougars in the field with a 21st place 8-over 79.  Brantley Baldwin's 10-over 81 placed 27th with Marshall Woolf's 20-over 91 and Toby Woolf's 39-over 110 placing 35th and 37th respectively.

The Cougars' next meet comes in two weeks in traveling to McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course for the two day Central Kansas Classic held September 13-14.
